MP3 to Wav? Is there a better method?

I am starting to import full tracks into live and have been doing this via MP3 to Wav and then working from there. Reading some of the posts no one has really said much about this. Is this pretty standard or are there other alternatives. Most material i have is on cd or downloaded and already in my computer. Any advice?

Live5 automatically converts imported mp3 files to wave. That's probably why people aren't talking about this anymore.
