u can use OSC, which traktor supports yet ableton doesnt. its "finer" than midi clock for sync. u can do it over network or on the same machine.
you could use www.plogue.com to host ableton, since plogue supports OSC.
heft but doable.

my favorites at the moment: MASSIVE. FM8. LIVE 6. Bome's Pro. KORE.

i like being able to see more than one waveform so i can have an accurate picture of where i am upto in each clip...defunkt wrote:ben_blue wrote:traktot and live each have wonderful features the other doesnt. i have often wished i could combine them into one
whats traktor got that live hasnt.have you seen version 3 of traktor.new mixer and an fx section,4 decks etc.live=as many decks,fx,etc as your machine can handle
the loop in/out of Live5 rocks, but its not quite there yet...
at the moment you have to find the clip that's playing in the session view, then click on it and then you can hit Loop in/out on your controller... as fluid as a rock...
I agree. i think Ableton isnt as intuitive a dj tool as Traktor for the reason abovementioned.
Unless you can see the waveforms of all tracks you are mixing it is very hard to manage. You need the visual waveform 'stripes' (in Traktor parlance) next to each other to see where the main phrases are in the relevant tracks.
If only in Ableton you could select 2 clips and they would both show their stripe in the clip view, instead of neither
With the arrival of T3, Ableton is probably going to take a backseat until this is addressed.

Try looking for midi over lan drivers. This may help reduce some of the midi sync timing issues, though last time I tried this it wasn't all that great. Try using each as the master clock, you may find that one is better than the other, or you may find you still need an external midi clock to drive live/traktor.
If you use midi loopback and for example have an indigo/dj you can actually do some cool audio routing on one laptop, though it may be a bit too much of a workout for your system.
