Hi,

There's many controllers on the market which have great features (like Kontrol49, Alesis, Peavey, etc...) But let me tell you why I prefer M-Audio controllers :
- it's really affordable : mostly the cheapest in the market actually (but be careful about Behringer)
- Good quality : I know - it's often plactic cases - but they do their job and works fine !
- smallest interface : look at Oxygen 8 or UC16-17, even UC33... Could you believe this 4 years ago ?
I tried many controllers but I'm a M-audio Maniac !!! I've got 3 of them (Oxygen8, UC16, UC17) and I really enjoy them. Last year, I did all my gigs with them, and I haven't any problems with.
Just a little black dot on the board : there's MIDI compatibility between a Mac laptop wired to Uc17 and a PC desktop wired to a UC33... Especially on LIVE 4.1.4 : we noticed a strange syncing problem over the 2 computers : my mate push more then 3 faders on UC33, and my Ibook goes crazy ! Since, nobody have an answer about this... But we resolve this on an another way : syncing our gig by ears (over a headphone) and it works great !

me too on the m-audio, i use a trigger finger, oxy 8, and a uc33e and it all does evrything i need it to, however that controller from wave idea looks pretty sweet. i am going to hold out and use what i have until maven, or someone else releases the super kine controller like sasha's .

i agree, its an amazing piece of technology with a whole lot of things you probably would never anticipate without using it for a while.

i could see it being a real nightmare to configure and being a big pain in the ass. somebody let me borrow one for a couple of months and i'll let you know.

I cant recall where I saw the other clips i've seen. It has a keyboard interface , as in....like a touchscreen keyboard , maybe one octave big....you could probably make this smaller or bigger. And it seems to me that its touchscreen was very sensitive. I can tell its not using pressure-sensitivity to register movement (which would suck ass), probably its using the electricity in our bodies to register touch and movement , only alot more accurate then those fuckin pads on laptops - at least on my sony vaio anyhow. I think I saw some video clips on a coverdisc i got from a recent edition of FUTURE MUSIC.

and as for lemur being a pain in the ass to programme....i would disagree- I think if you know what you want , you can do it without any problems. You would of course HAVE TO read the manual , rather than guessing and trying by trial and error. Other than that it seems pretty rudimentary to me , but I agree its more complex than your standard m-audio controller , but their in two different leagues.

isnt max/MSP $450 ?...if you couple a cheap ass controller with maxMSP you can make it do amazing , complicated things. which isnt much more expensive than your average m-audio unit....

like all things good , you reap what you sow I guess.

Totally agree on that one! Live is also more complicated than turntables, but so much better when you now how to use it...same goes for the more extreme max/msp/lemur example...

Afraid the G5 quad monster has to come before a Lemur

Having said that, I spent the last few days configuring my ancient Yamaha 01v as a MIDI controller. It's amazing what you can do if you dig deep enough into the manual.

Now I've got 30 motorized faders, loads of buttons, and am still able to use it as my audio mixer.

In that light, my Ozonic and Yamaha mini-ADAT cards are for sale. PM me if interested.

clinical as opposed to big pads, heavy knobs and solid faders...I can definitley see you can control the universe with that machine, but the way I use midi controllers just don't seem to fit with a touchcreen controller, meaning: it seems you can't really rock it!

hummm, the LEMUR sure got my attention, specialy the fact that is multi touch tft!

But...the price is not so afordable and for this price should be wireless!

Personally I've always liked the idea behind the faderfox series, but there are a couple of things that bug me.

1. They are so small, granted I've never actually used one, but the chances of hitting the wrong button seem high

2. Living in the states makes it difficult to get a faderfox, unless they've started shipping here.

I do like the look of the Novation ReMoTE SL 25, a little bit of everything, and it's got the nice little read outs above each channel.

Currently I use some of the features on the Xone:92 to controls basic MIDI elements, but would cinsider getting the 3D to have more MIDI options.

I've also considered just building my "perfect" controller, with what ever combination of faders, knobs, buttons, and the over all layout.

Either way I know I need something more.

i think it could be the control center of all your multimedia computer works. it could be designed for your live setup, your composing setup, your mixing setup, your djsetup, your visual setup,... all exactly as you want and need...
