kenton -wagonchrist-and squarepusher using live?
saw a show last night w/ wagonchrist and squarepusher in seattle-- both had 2 1/2 hr sets!!! wagonchrist just had an 867 12" tibook - and triggered things from his keypad. wonder if it was traktor DJ or LIVE?
squarepusher was plugged into 2 like 12U racks full of mystery equip- plugged into 2 kenton controlfreak midi controllers into a soni viao and tore it up with electric bass.... you know that he can play every song just with his bass????? blew less claypool to shreds..... anyway- does anyone know if the kenton control freak midi controlers can be programmed with live?? and does anyone know more about what he uses??

well you should be the one to tell us since you were there! I wish I knew.... but fortunately, it's not about the tools at all, it's about vision and ideas of course.
You should have creeped behind the guys to look at their screens.... that way, you could have found out....
lucky you that you saw these great artists!!!

Damn! What a lineup!!!!! I wish I knew about it. I saw Luke V. and Aphex when they came to Seattle in 97. That was very cool. It was just after Luke had released the Plug album and I didn't really know who he was. This hairy guy spun a couple of really nice sets, and all the while I though it was aphex pulling double shift before his show. I got that lp about a month later....DAMN what an album. If I would have know I would have thanked him for releasing IMOP the greatest DnB album of all time.
i stood directly in front of tom's hands the entire set. it follows that i got a pretty good view of what was going on. from what i could visually gather: at one point his contoller(s) weren't communicating with his (gasp) PC - he kept checking the connections in the back of the ketron and he also seemed to be having trouble with his bass playing the through the proper fx and pedals and such. it was a great show none-the-less. he must of had twenty-five minutes worth of bass solo's spread through the set. far and away the most insane bassist i've ever seen. he played a six string midi bass. all those wacky melodies featured on his albums are actually him on bass, no apparent sequences.
as for vibert, i will hazard a guess he was using live. what he was doing seemed to complex for tractor to handle. at first i thought he was using a g3, but once i was up close and in front of the man, i'm pretty sure he was using a 12" G4.

cool i was at the show in seattle last saturday, ir rocket...if you're on soulseek i took some pics/vids if you want to download, my name on there is AuralCommune. Uhh i was wondering what did luke vibert use...he must have mixed 100 songs in 2 hrs, doing lots of twiddling with some of the best cuts off drum n bass 4 papa. I really think it was live. As for tom jenkinson..i was amazed to see he didn't use a MAC!! WOOHOO ..he had a fat vaio, I dont think he used Live, was thinking maybe logic. The sound system was very nice/clear/loud. And seeing tom play live bass after all these yrs of wondering if he could match the description RDJ put on the backcover of feed me weird things, was wonderful. 100%

hi guys,
I'm interested in this topic.
Did Squarepusher use a vaio? i have seen some pics taken by a guy from his USA mini tour and it seems a powerbook, i can see the apple on the back..
Anyway, wonder what app he uses on his laptop.
i know that Tom makes most of his work on the bass, did he use laptop for beats and trigger samples? I think..
I know that Afx twin uses a vaio and nothing else i think.. i've never seen them gigging, here in Italy it's not easy to catch them!
luke Vibert is da man! I really like his stuff, especially Wagon christ stuff.

now if anybody could just tell us what software tools they were actually working with.....
judging by the sound of tom's recent albums, I would guess it'S reaktor.
shame that they don't let you watch from behind the guys.... I did that with Jelinek, Ovuca and R. Devine, quite interesting....

I wish I could be there.... was in Edinburgh for the fringe last year and loved the place... but of course, no Squarepusher in sight anywhere....miscreat wrote:Thought squarepusher was 100% hardware, could be wrong. He's playing Edinburgh 11th August so I'll be having a wee look then...small venue so should get a look...
Think Vibert's supporting...
