why do clips from RAM crackle?... and not from HD?

Post by DJLethalRush » Mon Nov 21, 2005 3:57 pm

When I throw clips into RAM, they pop and crackle the first time they are played... but not when they stream off disk.

How can I fix this? whats going on? isnt the opposite supposed to occur?

That IS a weird one. Do you have enough RAM (512MB or more)?
I think you should contact support.

Hi,

It could be that you've got too little RAM and your computer uses virtual memory, located on the hardrive, to fill the gap, thus swapping from RAM to HDD, causing cracks... Could this possibly be the case ? What does the monitor system say ?
Cheers,

the monitor system shows 10% of RAM in use.
and there is always a "Disk" access at the start of a clip which causes a short but very audible pop. and sometimes in the middle of the clips too.

my samples are on an external Firewire2.0 drive. should they not be? wouldnt internal be worse?
thanks
