Shit, this doesn't just apply to trance. It applies to everything in DJ culture. They pick on trance like its the only genre where DJ's are trying to make money. Sorry man, that's totally incorrect. House, DnB, and above all, Hip Hop. Everyone is in it to make money. It's all abuot marketing and how you sell yourself to people.

Now, the one thing that was lame about this is they target Tiesto as a DJ who plays other peoples music. Of all the Trance DJ's they could have picked to make this statement, they picked the wrong one as Tiesto does produce quite a bit of his own music. More than most trance DJ's.

I dunno much about Tiesto wrecking the rave scene. I thought it was already dying before tiesto came along. Thats way to much credit towards him imo.
But i know for sure that clearchannel is fucking things up for the techno scene in Belgium.......
The prices we pay these days for an international act. It's insane.
And those weird contracts they make the artists sign.
Artists cant be double booked. Or they get sued.
That just doesn't make sense. Because the clearchannel event is always sold out.

No one would do ANYTHING if they werent getting paid. These trance pricks just get paid the most because they like to undo everything music related.

Tiesto is a great example. His show is more about flame blowing hoes in tubetops and spandex, than music. Lights, dancers, they are one thing, but Tiesto is a fucking spaz.

I saw teisto just a couple of years ago before he was so highly rated and he put on a great show and everybody had a good time. No big deal, but a good night out and an above average DJ. I have seen him once since he was voted the worlds best DJ--pretty much the same show, a good show, but very similair.

The above posts and comments are all examples of the predictable backlash an artist recieves for becoming popular. From what I have actually seen and read the guy hasn't changed a whole hell of a lot one way or the other. Maybe thats what he should be criticised for--all the success has sorta stifled his creativity and locked him into a formula.

One point I am making here is that we can discuss Teisto intelligently without being so damn predictable and reverting to moronism. Some of that strip was hillarious, some was a bit too extreme and propaganda like--the scene doesn't need bullshit like that any more more than it needs rockstars (who teisto is not, some dj fit that bill but in my opinion not teisto)... He's open to criticism but I'm not gonna say all the bullshit everybody says about somebody who gets popular...just because they get popular...I guess thats my main point.. That's just as autonomous as following a rock star dj. See what I mean? I'm not really a teisto fan.....

Let me just give my two cents.

1 - Sure DJ's aren't really hard acts. I could learn whatever Tiesto does in a week maybe. It just requires some amount of speed and math.

2 - The real problem is that DJ's are taking away the hard work of REAL performers. If you going to a rave to solely see someone, at least they could be doing something that requires some amount of talent. I DJ and perform and I just feel dirty after DJing because I seem to get more "love" from the crowd doing that than performing.

3 - I don't like the fact that the comic seems to take a stab at trance music in general. Trance music is art and cannot be discounted. If the comic strip was not intending that, then cool. But it often sounded like it was "trance bashing".

I don't like the delivery of the message in this case. It just seems to be a bit hypocritical. It is telling you to stop being brain washed and to think for yourself BUT YET the comic is "brainwashing" you into this view.

I do feel that there is some loss in rave culture because of superstar DJ's BUT the same is happening in all other areas. One example would be Greenday's raid on rock music by stealing the spotlight from bands that play far more advanced music but only gain this spotlight from the 14 year old girls that scream their name.

Another example is rappers and hip-hop. Don't get me wrong, rapping is hardcore and I love rappers, but I do feel they are loosing that "homemade" feel. All the music behind a rap today is studio mass produced and not really original. I liked the days where the rapper learned to program an MPC and go with it, instead of letting the studio take care of 90% of it all.

I could name dozens of other things where this is happening, but the fact is that people will do what they will, and there is no fucking changing it. People sometimes even personally decide to "worship" this people because they genuinely care about what they do.

So lets all just accept the changes for what they are and leave the brainwashed alone. If it is truly not meant to be, the universe will eventually take care of it.

In short, STFU and make some music.
