I have had this exact same problem except I'm using Logic 6.0.1 on a Powermac G4.Veroom wrote:Hello Alex,
Here's what happens. I fire up Cubase, activate the Live ReWire channels then launch Live. While Live is launching I get the following error message:
"Detected problems with ReWire master application. Live will not behave correctly. Please see the manual addendum section on solving ReWire slave problems."
[PS - the manual says absolutely nothing about this other than to check out the FAQ's on your website which say even less!]
In Live I opened the Session Demo project that came with Live 2.1 that's in the Contents directory. When I press Play in Cubase, Live does play the project and all the levels are reading as you describe.
I keep Cubase set to 24-bit audio.
When I've tried to use this configuration for a while, my system starts becoming unstable and I usually have to cut the power to bring it down because either Live or Cubase will lock up and I can't kill the process.
Hope this helps.
Live as ReWire slave still won't work

Live 2.1.1 and Logic 6.0.1
Hi Verom,
This will be better when our new FAQ is online (hopefully soon).
Concerning the stereo inputs of the Quattro...
Since Live 2 we have an input section in the busview (the bus symbol in lower right corner). For each stereo input pair you have a 'link' button.
When on (green), the input appears as stereo input in the track, when off (gray) the stereo channel appears as top mono channels in the track.
(Also an urgent FAQ issue :))
regards,
Alex
You're right. Shame on us. But to our defense, what is a bit strange for me and probably also my teammates from the support is that it worked fine with Reason. If I select switch this "release ASIO..." option, then also Reason work not right anymore. Now, why did 1/2 dozen emails to Ableton support over the past 6 months about this problem not solicit this rather easy fix?

Thanx for the heads-up on the stereo/mono options. I probably never would have thought of this on my own and will check it out shortly.Alex wrote:

I couldn't agree more on a much-needed update to your FAQ section. I'm not sure how much time you spent on this with me, but I'm sure you could easily have written the FAQ on this in that time which would have saved both of us the cycles we are spenting here.
I was wondering myself why Reason doesn't seem to care if the "release ASIO" switch is set or not yet Live appears to have a BIG problem with it. At least this should give your team a place to start when you get around to revisiting this part of your code.
Cheers - V [and thanx for a way cool audio app]

Just an FYI, I am also a user of Cubase SX 1.06 and was unable to get it to work. I was getting pretty frustrated until I unchecked "Release ASIO drive in background" and it began working.

Just a quick post-script here.
Although Live is "better" behaved as a ReWire slave under SX with the "release ASIO" toggled off, it still doesn't appear to be perfect. At the end of my session I couldn't get SX to quit properly - it just hangs and doesn't respond to anything - but at least I could Shut Down Windows without having to pull the power plug. SX only behaves like this after I've tried to use Live with it.
I would venture to guess that the implementation of Live as a ReWire slave still needs some time in the oven before it's ready for prime-time. It appears to be a first-class ReWire master though.
Cheers

Prior to turning OFF the release ASIO in the background, it was impossible to shut down SX properly after running it with Live. In most cases I would have to pull the power to shut down the computer.Alex wrote:Veroom,
Is it always not possible for you to quit Cubase after using it together with Live?

Alex
I've only tried them together yesterday with the background ASIO toggled OFF, so there isn't a whole lot of history here, but I did try it once - loading SX, then Live -> then quitting Live then SX, and it seemed to work fine the first time. I then loaded SX, then Live - played around a bit, then shut down Live and worked for a few hours in SX alone. When I tried shutting SX down, it refused to quit, but I was able to shut down Windows which killed the SX process without having to resort to pulling the plug. In the few times I've played with Reason as a slave to SX, I've never encountered this problem.
I was poking around the rest of the forum and noticed in your initial post about the fixes in 2.1 that another person raised this very same issue. Seems this one has been festering for a while, has it not? Would also seem a large part of the 2.03 to 2.1 update is relating to ReWire slave issues.
Cheers.

Yes Alex, Live is definitely in Rewire mode, and I see levels on each of the channels in Live which are playing clips. The output of these channels are bused to the Rewire buses, but no levels are showing on the bus meters in bus view. Also, no audio arrives at the Logic channels set up for Rewire, although Logic knows Live is available as a Rewire slave and the two apps are synced together transport-wise. So far it seems to be something to do with Live, since I see no audio output going to the buses in Live's bus view.Alex wrote: Steve,
when you already see "ReWire 1/2" Live is in ReWire slave mode. When you assign one of the ReWire busses offered by Live in any Logic channel you should see:
Live: the level in the track where a clip is playing
Live: the level of the select ReWire bus in the busview
Logic: the level in the corresponding logic channel.
Do you see any of these levels?
regards,
Alex
If I use Live as a stand-alone app everything works okay (sound goes out the master output and is heard).
Any ideas??? Thanks for your help!!!
Steve.
Hello Live users,
This is related to Live 2.1.1 and Digital Performer 3.11 and 4.01 ReWire connectivity.
The problem for most users I believe is the Aux track in DP. These instructions are relevant for DP 3.11 and DP 4.01. The Aux Track allows you to monitor the ReWire inputs without problems. You may get thing to work without an Aux Track, but you will most likely encounter very strange behavior and crashing.
1. Open DP.
2. Create an Aux Track in DP
3. Choose Live as the Input on the Aux Track
4. Open Live
The order in which you perform these steps is the key.
I have tested ReWire with DP 3.11 and DP 4.01 and had success using these steps.
If it does not work, please quit Live and DP, and try it again.
If problems persist, please contact support with a detailed description of the problem.

That worked in DP4, but what is confusing is that you need to use an aux track instead of a normal stereo track. Also, choosing Live as an input before starting Live is contrary to how Reason works when ReWired to DP4. Selecting an input in DP4 before starting the input application (Live) doesn't seem to make sense. It does work though.
Hi Guest,
But Live can run as slave and as master. So the question is when DP is started and you start Live, how should Live detect if you want to have it as ReWire slave or standalone.
Please have in mind that Reason is a ReWire slave only application. Also, choosing Live as an input before starting Live is contrary to how Reason works when ReWired to DP4

When you select the ReWire bus in Logic, did you select the MixL and MixR at the very top of the menu, or the one part way down ?
It is a little confusing, as the first Mix channels you see, when the menu pops up, are actually for the second ReWire device. The Mix channels are always first on the list, so look up the very top of the menu.
