why has live started crashing constantly?

Post by Mike Goodwin » Wed Nov 23, 2005 2:19 am

I have started warping in my record collection to see if i like dj'ing with live and it seems that loading tracks and warping them has brought up a new problem. I get about four soungs into warping and with no notice I get a hard crash. nothing moves audio just studders into an anoying tone. I am also getting huge dropouts. Like when drop a new track in the one that is playing stops sounding. It is not till I start playing the track again that it makes any sound. I have trid trashing the pref.cfg file as well as reinstalling live. I am not using any plugins and this happening over and over again. I truly hope that i am overlooking something here.

anyone know what this is?

From what you say there maybe is no problem with live.? Does the crash happen at the same time. I mean every 30 mins after restart? While you record or monitor external source? A heavy crash could also be a hardware problem such as soundcard? IS there any other equipment connected to your soundcard like a dat machine via spdif or coaxil?
I wonder if it happens on the same song? if so then good chance the asd file is corrupt so you need to trash and warp again. last thing it might be your buffer size or at least it might be the cause of dropots but this is common (dropouts) on many peopls pc. Not so with only two tracks playing back

more infos is needed to help more

Hi,

Sometimes, in weird situations, it helped to trash the file "preferences.cfg", which is in different locations depending if you're on mac or PC, and can be hidden as a system file if you're on a PC. Find it, trash it (not the whole preferences folder, just the file), and restart Live. It will rescan all VSTis etc, you'll have to reset you preferences, but hoppefully it will stop crashing.
Best,

it looks like the problem was due to the use of an external HDD. Now lets see if I can find all my asd. files that seem to have gone missing :?

I am still getting odd glitches when dragging tracks from the browser to the tracks. I talked to support about it and they seem to think that it would have to do with irq inturreupt settings. But I am not willing (at least today) to rip my computer into little bits only to rebuild it. It is not rely a ableton problem more of a hardware issue. One day next week I may dive into this one though as I dont plan on buying a computer any time soon.
