Back to Live 4, undo problem

Post by Meef Chaloin » Fri Nov 25, 2005 1:02 pm

Hi, ive gone back to Live 4 for various reasons (mainly v5 using too much CPU for me) but there seems to be something strange going on with the undo, it has loads of entries as 'undo parameter #34' & stuff like that, although undoing them doesnt seem to do anything. Am i doing something wrong here cos im sure it never used to do that?

you're probably using a plugin that self-modulates one or more parameters.

The self-modulation is filling up your undo buffer.

To check this, pop open the plugin paramter controls in the Ableton GUI (where you would set midi controls on the parameters) and look for some slider(s) that are moving on their own, i.e. they were not automated by you.

You can
1. Abandon that plugin and replace with another of similar functionality.
2. Convince the developer to fix it.
3. Sometimes you can just not use the part of the VST that is causing the problem.
4. Live with no undo.

So the behaviour is the same in Live 4?

I never checked, but I think it would be. Which VST is the problem?

In my case it's Lounge Lizard 2...
It would certainly make sense that it happens in Live 4 as well but i never noticed the problem there. Then again i only recently got LL 2 so maybe i just didn't use any problematic plug-ins in Live 4.

I use lots of plugins, but I've found only a few that are problematic in this way.

Elogoxa Baxxpander -- deleted, not all that useful
Protoplasm -- contacted vendor: fixed by vendor!
EZPoly -- plan to resample & phase out
Crysonic SpectraLive -- contacted vendor, no response yet...
