Audio interface recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a very stable audio interface? i need the following;

1) stability: will be using it a live setting
2) mac compatibility (running a powerbook g4/466)
3) cue bus capability: need to be able to "cue up" tracks in order to beat match

I've used the Steinberg/RME multiset but it has let me down one too any times (audio dropuots in a live performance are not good).

wow, from my experience and that of many others, the RME multiface with PCMCIA cardbus is the best and most reliable soundcard out there for laptops. I use it live all the time, record up to 16 tracks at once, using wither 1.5 or 3 ms latency and it has never let me down. I would suggest it, but sounds like you've had troubles (with the nuendo version of the rme ?????)

I've used the motu 828 for this very thing for 3 years now. I apply fx to my vocals live and also use Live to play back my tracks. The 828 has never let me down, and has always sounded really, really dope.

If you want to go the USB route, I heard good things about the Emagic 2|6 interface and the Phase 26 USB from TerraTec. The TerraTec gets extra points for including a MIDI interface and a turntable preamp.

i have the emi 2/6 and it is stable - worked straight out of the box and if you're mac , emagic is obviously a good bet as it's part of the same company now - so in other words their support and mac integration is higher priority as emagic is now no longer spending ANY RESOURCES AT ALL on PC, bummer for me as i'm pc, but so far i haven't had a problem. I got it in place of the m-audio quattro whcih is complete rubbish - just didn't work, i then got an m-audio duo which was great, really nice mic preamps and great latency, but only 2 out,s which i didn't think of at first, but then ended up with the 2/6 which hasn't given me a problem yet.

Hi guys,

I'm looking for some interfaces for friends with powerbooks..something with more than 2 outs and ins would be good, phantom power and mic preamps nice as well.

Any more suggestions?

i just found a great audiodevice fitting snuggly with ableton live: sonica theater. have a look on www.maudio.de. its an usb 7.1 audiodevice which comes with one stereo input and eight outputs which can seperatly accessed by asio. latency is 4+5=9ms and has also direct monitoring.
price 139 euro! works great!

thanks for all your replies. Ended up settling for seperate interfaces for the studio and perfomrnace rigs.

Studio: Apogee Rosetta 800 with X-FireWire card. Nothing but parise for this unit. Amazing sound quality and stereo imaging. The firewire functionality is flawless. The only potential drawback is the sticker price. It's quite expensive but IMO definately worth it if you are a music professional.

Live: Ended up with an M-Audio FireWire 410 for live performance. Decent sound solid firewire implementation.
