ok, i like to do remixes, with ableton live.
for the past 4 months, i have been bumping into this very same problem with live4 and live5.
this is what i do. i load in few wavefiles (independent of bit-depth, samplerate, length, size, etc) of a track i'm remixing, i'll make loops of them, work mostly in session view.. then slowly once the track starts becoming more cohesive, i record it into the arrangeview. i might have sved anything from 2 to 15 "save early save often"-savefiles.. i'll keep working on a track as long as it takes for it to finish up.
i load everything to RAM. i have 512mb of memory. i use a rme hammerfall dsp pcmcia card. i have a p4/2ghz and live5.0.2 obviously.
now, the problem is this, once i get to loading back these songs, they do (mostly) load, but some longer, or shorter samples, refuse to load up, either becoming mute (yes, the files ARE there, they are playable, they are loaded into ableton live) - refusing to play.. OR they play to an extent, and start looping like there is a buffer overflow or something. for instance i might have a 20second singing phrase, and the first vowel will start repeating till the end of the wavefile. thiswith "complex" "tones" or "beat-mode". they might at any point
1) not play
2) start looping like beat-repeater going haywire
3) emit LOUD (and i do mean LOUD) bursts of white noise, crackles, hums, clicks.
i have had thiswith live4, with live5, and it makes _no sense_. i literally have to reboot and hope against hope that the track will play properly.
sometimes if its only one wave out of the whole song that keeps skipping, i'll load it into a wave-editor, and change the volume to 100.10% or 99.9% and save, and have live load it back again. this might, or might not help.
what, exactly, is going on?
sometimes the very same songs (i have at least a few of them, and yes they're all loop-based remixes) will cause a total crash, and upon reboot theres a 50% chance if they will play or not.
i use autofilter, a reverb, a compressor, and other live-only-effects. i do not understand what is going on, i only started having this problem round june/july 2005. i've had reinstalls after that, and 5.0.2 made one "always crash" remix load up - but im really disappointed and saddened by this incessant trouble i have. what am i supposed to do? quit using live?
