"A serious program error has occured"

Post by danryanfl » Wed Nov 16, 2005 4:08 am

I changed my template file not long ago, and ever since when I try to drag and drop certain clips that point to mp3 files it gives me the message "A serious program error has occured, please save your work and restart Live" (or something like that). But, if I double click the clip in my file browser, it will successfully add it to a new track and then I can drag and drop it from there successfully.... what is going on?

problems ahoy!

Post by datalyst studio » Wed Nov 16, 2005 5:27 am

this is not surprising...i have been battling Live the last 4 days and have recently spent a lot of time on this forum...i've discovered many Live 5.0.2 users are having issues like this...i think there are some real problems right now and as i understand it, they know it and are working on a fix. here are my problems:

1- songs that use to play and render fine in 4.1 now play back with ugly pops, clicks and drop outs.

2- i've had Live crash more than i am ever use to usually with the same message you posted appearing.

3- most recently, Live won't even launch...i have been dead in the water for 2 days now. I click my icon, it begins to launch, it cycles through my plug-ins and then stops...i get that same darn message...i usually have to "end process" using my task manager...i think i'll try a brand new install.

i have e-mail'd ableton, their solution did not work...

i am scratching my head and hoping they have the fix for all these glitches in a hurry...

best of luck,

better...for now

i uninstalled 5.0.2 and reinstalled 5.0.1...it is working!

admittedly, i have not pushed it yet with any of my 'bigest' songs with all the plug-ins, audio tracks and rewire tracks...been busy over the holiday.

i am glad to at least have Live launching again. i have recorded and mixed a few songs since my post and all has been well. there was one song that when i loaded a cpu intensive Waves plug-in near the end of my session, it started getting 'jittery' but i already had at least one plug-in on every track (perhaps 13 tracks), plus vst's on two fx returns....so i know i was pushing my system for sure.

i maxed out my buffer on my sound card and that helped a lot, and when i rendered, all went fine...i was able to get a solid rendered mix.

in the interim i think i'm going to see if i can stick it out with 5.0.1 until a new update comes out...5.0.3 or 5.1

best of luck.
