Remix success with Live

Post by aural roberts » Wed Jul 30, 2003 11:14 am

Found out the other day that I was the winner of the Future Loop Foundation remix competition in Future Music magazine :D .

The track was made totally with Live and I have to say a big thanks to Ableton for this software. I've tried other programs but never managed to get anything finished - the whole process was so cumbersome that I always got sick of what I was doing and gave up. Live just lets you get on with it as well as making it so much easier to try out new ideas. It's a really good feeling to finally finish something and then to get such a good result from it.

If anyone would like to hear this track, it's at :-

Thanks again Ableton,

This track is ill man, seriously good stuff. I have been writing downtempo here and there for the last couple months, and I must say it is one of the most rewarding genres I have worked in. I am really impressed with your stuff; keep up the good work!

peace,

- Nick

The only secret is the one that everyone here knows about already ie. using Live. It's really made a huge difference to what I'm able to achieve in comparison to other progs I've tried. I hope that Ableton can maintain its innovative edge in forthcoming versions and I'm encouraged by monolake's recent words on the subject :-
Live 3 will not satisfy all your desires but i believe it will offer you possibilites which will surprise you, inspire you and which will follow our general idea of making it easy to achive complex musical results. You will see....
Sounds good to me ...

Nice work - how much of it was the supplied loops? What parts were some magic you conjured up yourself?

Also, what thread did the monolake quote come from? Have any details about Live 3 been divulged yet?

Hi Rx,

Glad you liked the track. The parts from the original track were mainly trumpet and flute loops. I added some further horn parts, some pads for "atmosphere" and replaced the original bass and drums . The aim was to retain the essence of the original while giving it a different feel.

The quote from monolake is from a recent thread in Future Wishlist called "live 3 hopes". I don't think there's anything definite been announced about live 3 yet - what robert seems to be saying is "trust us, we're going to come up with some great stuff in the next version but we're a small company and it may take some time".

Thanks - nice response from Robert. I'm sure whatever they come up with next will rock and still be stable as hell.
