rewiring with logic doesn't really make sense to me(and apparently it doesn't make sense to you either). the name Live obviously implies it's made for live use(though I don't mean to say it's not for studio use also, it totally is). you can trigger any number of loops at any given moment. these loops can be short or very long. you can use instruments and fx which can be linked to knobs and key strokes and keyboards so you can play your beats and tweak fx and trigger new loops all on the fly. you can even record new loops off the top of your head if you go to the artist section of this site and look up kidbeyond you'll see what he does with a midi foot controller which is something you can't do in any other program.
live is also great for matching beats of completely different tempo all on the fly. just drop it in and go.
so the idea behind live is like turning your computer into a tool much like you'd have in a "groovebox" type hardware. using a program like logic you don't have nearly the same ability to control what happens in a live atmosphere and you don't nearly have the same ability to improvise. of course logic does have it's place though.

I am a former Cubase VST user that purchased Live a few months ago (to load on a new laptop). It only really "clicked" for me a few weeks ago. Up until then, I kept wishing that I had Cubase on my machine and almost purchased SX. Then, without expecting anything, it just clicked. The program made sense. I still have a long way to go in learning Live, but it's no longer a struggle and I'm no longer wishing that I had Cubase (whew, now I can spend that money elsewhere). Although, it's not perfect, it's making me realize all of the things that Cubase doesn't have.
For me, the key was sitting down and writing with Live. I had a deadline for a project.. Being "forced" to use it really made the difference. I would recommend trying to write a few songs without relying on Logic or any other sequencer. I suspect that you will have the same revelation after giving it some time. Again, it's not perfect, but you will hopefully appreciate all it has to offer.

Rewiring will give you the ability to compensate for some serious limitations in both Logics bounce features and Lives audio/midi editing features.- as long as you forgo the expectation for it to still run as an efficient real-time performance tool. You will still have an overwhelming amount of freedom, despite sluggishness. THe sluggushness on the behalf of live will work much better than the time spent bouncing and stretching in Logic.
Bouncing and stretching in Logic is not fun, and not professional imo. Rewire will compensate for this.
Using tools like midipipe and soundflower are more effiecient, though the awkward klunkiness of logic has made this work around prohibitive for me. But I am just an unfrozen cave-man lawyer.

The reason I bought it (Live 5 full version on a Mac G4 Powerbook) was based on all the good reviews I heard, and I use percussion and drum loops and stuff in my tracks but it takes ages slices things up in your standard sequencer. So I thought Live might offer some considerable benifits in these areas. Like a flashy version of Dr Rex.
But all I seem to be able to get out of it is that it plays loops. Thats great but is that all it does? I was kind of hoping I be able to slice loops to bits and trigger each part with a keyboard or somthing like that?
