Noob with TiBook and PC Craptop needs some advice

Post by vantage » Fri Dec 02, 2005 11:11 am

Hello musicians and international political statesmen(!)

Been awhile since I posted and I'd be greatful for some advice:

1. I've been playing with the Live Demo CD and it is amazing (tell us something we don't know). So I would like to run Live.

2. I own a TiBook 667/1 gig and a Vaio 1.8m Centrino/1 gig. I'm thinking of an RME Cardbus and multiface interface but the $6m dollar question is on which 'puter should I run live on? My head says de-Vaio the vaio (remove all the Sony guff and clean install windows) and get an external fast firewire hard disk but my heart says I love my TiBook.

3. If I choose the PC for Live what can I do with the TiBook? Run RAX and use it as a VST synth? Any other ideas?

Many thanks for any input or advice you can spare me.

Vantage :)

well you'll probably be able to run 8 times as many tracks off the vaio, hehe. But I guess you already knew that.Running RAX on the TI would be fun I guess, and it would make you feel better, since you'd be using your mac for music.

Thanks for the reply Machinate, RAX on the Mac seems the only way I can integrate my faithful friend into my setup.

Anyone got any suggestions for a cheap audio interface for the TiBook?

I'd stick with the sony for your production... that tibook is just going to be too painful. However, it might be nice to toss a copy of live/logic/rax whatever for the occaisional AU plugin. I think that it's still going to be an uphill battle to do any type of serious number crunching on that mac, though..

Thanks sqook, that's what I feared, my TiBook is my faithful friend, more like a pet that a computer, the Vaio is well, just a PC, don't get me wrong Live is Live on a Mac or a PC, it's just sad to say goodbye... sniffle...

Rax on the Mac Live on the Vaio with the RME Cardbus it is.

Thanks for all the input
