changing the click sound...

Post by IZNODJ » Fri Aug 01, 2003 6:23 am

Hey Alex,

I posted a message a few days ago about changing the click sound. I wanted to get rid of the accent on the down beat... I followed the instruction you gave me:
'you have to open the Live package (holding down ctrl while left mouse click) and go into the right folder ("Live package/Content/App-Resources/Misc").'

I copied the ''Metronome.wav'' and renamed it ''MetronomeUp.wav'' with their corresponding .asd files. I don't know if it was ok to do that, but it worked fine. However, after a few days , the longer Live is open, the click pitch goes up almost an octave!... As soon as I close Live and reopen it, the click comes back to it's original pitch...

Any ideas?..

Live 2.1.1, os 10.2.6, Motu 828, Midiman USB 4x4, Titanium 1g

thanx

Hi IZNODJ,

it was 100% okay to exchange the click sounds with your own ones !
But i have no idea where the pitch change comes from...

There should be no difference between our "metronome.wav" and any other sound having the same name...

if you want to send me your sound i will crosscheck this...

...i should read before i answer...

you did not use your own files but just renamed the Metronome.wav to MetronomeUp.wav. But then the behaviour is even stranger....

... i will test this ....

Hey IZNODJ - why not just load in an audio file of a click into a clip slot. You can have an assortment of clicks to chose from then.

Just use up a track for your click - a "Click Track" heh.

If you've got a drum machine or such like, just record some stick or cowbell (or whatever you like) sounds into live for later use and it'll timestrech them to whatever tempo you're working at.

I often used to do this in Pro Tools, which had a particularly cumbersome click in OS9.

It's a pretty foolproof way of doing it, and won't ever let you down.

It's good to use more than just 4 beats for a click, anyway. Try 1/4s = cowbell 1/8s = tambourine 1/16s = hi hat. Much easier to play along with and stay in time than just gunk gunk gunk gunk.

A little time spent setting up good clicks goes a long way in the long run. Try little conga grooves etc. Or buy a book on latin percussion and get programming. (you can probably get a lot of these grooves on the web).

Or get a sample CD with Latin percussion wavs. Try one of the Miles Bould sample CDs. Last time I looked they were going for about £25. Loads of cool latin grooves that Live'll instantly timestretch for you. Spend a bit of time warping them real tight and save the relevant asd files. Then you'll be set up for life.

No more gunk gunk gunk gunk. aaargh!

Maybe I'll stick this in Tips and Tricks.

Thanx for the tips Tim...

I thought of doing that for sure... But I though the guys at Ableton would want to check that one out...

Hi Robert,

I think I have a clue about what may cause that strange click behaviour. I forgot to mention in my first message that Reason was open all the time in Rewire mode so I can play the sampler, etc...
The click thing happens when I open a song in the Reason sequencer... That's what I found out so far, thought you guys would be interrested to know that...

thanx
