Jitter?

Newbie here...XP Pro SP2/Athlon 2600XP/ABIT NS7/1GB/MBOX2/Toneport...

Just upgraded to SP2 (reformated the hard drives, re-installed Live 5.0.2 but not the others.) I've set audio to ASIO and the newest digi asio drivers (for PTLE 7) and suddenly I'm getting audio glitches in wav files (even the tutorial ones.)

Forgive my lack of knowledge on the terms but the files seem to jitter or warble (almost like a tremelo.)

This was not happening before. I've tried setting the latency up and down and a few other things but nothing seems to work.

I would say it was either the files or the mbox but same files/mbox sound perfectly fine in Tracktion 2.

I haven't set everything up to use the digi drivers but was wondering if anyone had a clue what's going on?

Thanks for any help you can give...obviously I can use Tracktion but I prefer Live

Anyway, last night I tried using the onboard sound with it's asio drivers and got the same thing so it's definitely Live and not the drivers or audio device. Midi devices seem to work ok but I'm getting cut-outs which I never got before.

The real differences between my old set-up and new one...

On the old set-up I originally installed 4.1 Digi edition which I upgraded to 5.0.1 and then 5.0.2. On the new set-up, I only installed 5.0.2.

On the old set-up I used XP Pro SP1 and I've upgraded to SP2.

On the old set-up, Live was installed on the slave drive and on the new set-up I've installed it on the system drive.

So it's either something in the install process or something with SP2....

Ableton support has asked me to record the demo and send it to them as an mp3 but if anyone else has some ideas in the meantime, I'd love to hear'em!

A standard install of Windows comes with an enormous amount of crap running in the background that sucks the power out of your computer.

If your music computer is not connected to the Internet (better IMO) than XP SP1 is better anyway, SP2 contains more security code, it's a tiny bit more "bloated".
