Live 5...autowarp. Accurate?
I am a live 3 user and I am thinking about an upgrade to Live 5. I have been doing some reading on it and I am curious about the new "autowarp" feature. I guess I am wondering if it is as accurate as I have read. To my understanding you simply need to import your track to live and it will preform the warp automatically. Does this work as well as it sounds? Is there still a need to go back and place warp markers as you would in Live 3 or 4. I would be importing mainly house, progressive house and breaks. Any comments on the matter would be great
I've warped hundreds of tracks, and have had great luck with Autowarp.
Adding 3-4 seconds of silence at the beginning of the track helps to make the algorithm a lot more accurate, especially if the track doesn't start on a downbeat. It's really easy to add the silence using the 'edit' button in Live (I add the silence in Peak).

Autowarp saves me a lot of time, but it is not perfect. I warp house mostly (and occasionally some jambands), and after autowarp does its thing i usually just adjust the first marker to where I want and then make a very minor adjustment to the last XXX.3 beat in the song and I'm done (takes about 20 seconds or so...).
Other than that though, Live 5 is better for many reasons compared to Live 3, mp3 support, VSTi and midi support, saving multiple clips for each sample, etc.

Just started playing with Ableton to create some mixes...trying to learn how to make the songs match better myself...I'm trying to fuse old industrial with electro and minimal techno...having lots of fun so far!danryanfl wrote:Autowarp saves me a lot of time, but it is not perfect. I'm from Miami as well...so I assume you're into breaks/electro...nobody does it like the MIA
I'm a bit of a Hawtin head myself...few of us here.

Only warped and mixed a few tracks but it worked like a dream for me. Will definitely be looking into it further and hoping to learn/understand the manual warping too - autowarp is fine but I need to be able to do it too in case things don't work out.
I say good show.

For me, many times the thing to do is select all the warp markers Live makes, and just move them all back or forth till they hit the beat. I mean most times the tempo is right and all you need is some offset. It is so much faster to warp with 5, just being able to click on the clip to play from there worth the upgrade...
