The only reason I come to the forums anymore is for...
1 - Live Updates
2 - Releases of new software that I can't get from KVR
3 - PM People that don't have AIM
Hopefully if the forum cleans out the crap, maybe this can be added...
4 - Have meaningful conversation about music or the Ableton Live software.

Oh c'mon. This seems like such a simple question and the answer should be obvious but if you think about it, you might realize something you never think about because, hey, why do you need to think about functioning in a community that you share a common interest in? Maybe the question is 'What is the common interest REALLY?'
I think the question is general enough for he General Forum myself.

I think last year sometime, STFU was swiftly replaced with "Make like a library and get the fuck out of here."
I think Magic Mushroom is going to be our new Hot Shot Poster with a #1 topic that goes gold after 1 million replies.
Here's a question. What is the most important part of the community itself?
Is it the software it revolves around? The ideas that revolve around the software? The people we find out about that use the software? The stuff the software users talk about that has nothing to do with software? The trolls that talk about the users? I mean, I remember when I first saw LIVE, the last thing on my mind was "I wonder what the userbase thinks of the current political issues floating around the media." but I didn't stop reading the newspaper when I started reading Tape Op either.

well mr Magic mushroom of 16 posts who seems to know alot about the history of this forum....how many posts under a different name? c',mon tell us your aliases and get your cards on the table.Magic Mushroom wrote: This may be the most intelligent statement I've ever seen here.
I expect more from the rest of you hot shot producers?
anyone else?
Before Forge I was Sixela, then I forgot my login so I became Forge.....plus I made a fair few in the Guest days when I couldnt be arsed logging in at work...
Anyway, let me start with Forge, do a seach for forge and you wil find A MOUNTAIN of shit which doesnt mean anything to anyone but me, but you will also find AN EQUAL amount of shit about Ableton and music production and alot of free in depth help for alot of newbies......same goes for Adamjay, Sweetjesus, Smutek.... I could name dozens
when people regularly hang out in forums like this it tends to become like their social group and so it behaves as such, meaning you get alot of irrelevant crap as well...usually however, it's the "trolls" who get personal and offensive who change the tone, alot of us old timers may have meaningless shit to say but rarely will it get unpleasant unless someone creating a log in like "DJ Retard" or "Over it" or even you with no posts to your name except trolling and negative shit about other members comes in and starts taking it that way.
So when you've made as many really genuinely helpful live related comments and made REAL friends here who you enjoy communicating with on ALL topics, then feel free to slag everyone off because we'll probably understand. But so far you have yet to prove you are anything but a troll because most of your 16 posts have been criticising other members.....
so there!
I read Magic's posts to. There were honest questions about pc building and Live usage. Even giving recommendations on audio schools. Maybe he just feels that the community has let him down in some way. Like maybe he was expecting more from the forum then he is receiving. There's nothing wrong with not liking the Ableton forum. Nothing wrong with saying it either. I just wish the first post had more qualifiers like 'I feel...because...' It's hard to get your whole self across in a paragraph or 2 but we do need to make the assumption that readers are simply reading. No intonation of voice is heard and especally with any first post, it is out of context automatically.
From the title, it sounds like Magic is appalled at something.
The first sentance states that he had the idea that this forum is supposed to be an intellectually stimulating forum in the pursuit to advance our scientific knowledge into a greater understanding of the tools that lay before us.
His words, not Ableton's. Unless I missed it somewhere.
I feel from this that Magic has the idea that the forum is possibly not intellectually stimulating or that it does not advance our scientific knowledge of our tools in someway.
Maybe Magic could put some more definitives in there for us incase I'm just being dense.

Well if this forum has "appalled" you then I wonder how you feel when you stop to think of hate, war, greed, mass consumption, murder, child abuse, misstreatment of the entire planet and all the other horrific things that are happening at every second of each and every day. I like this forum even with all its problems. That is why I come here every day. Oh and that live has better enabled me to express myself than any other tool that I have ever used in the 20+years that I have been making music. And even if i dissagree with the other people here on all other fronts I can agree with them on ableton live and that is why this place is here. So if you are appalled then dont come here.
Ok Mr. Mushroom.. When I come here, Live's forum, I do it not only to get some technical information about Live or Music Production, I also come here to have some fun, 'cos when I connect to the net everyday, after checking my mail, I go straight to this forum, it has it's own life, it's absolutly different from any forum I've came across... And that's thank to the people who form it, to us, even thanks to you that come here to add some pepper (lets leave it like this) You may love this forum, or hate it, it's on you.
But if you are so short of mind to see the beauty on every single thing that just want to see the negative part, sorry about you.
Do you want more tech. info, write to the guys of the support team, or read the manual, buy a book, go to a HD recording course, or Live course, anything... it's not that difficult...
Nothing's gonna change here...
Sorry for my english. And yeah, you could consider me one of the followers, since what AJ writes sometimes is usefull for me, also MBreqs, or smutek, or any of the guys... or at least make me have a good time when I'm on internet... that's priceless

...and also a social place to hang out and share sometimes irrelevant stuff with people you've never met but whose online company you enjoy. I didn't join this forum to only pursue scientific knowledge. I didn't use fora before coming here, except one I set up at work for families I worked with.Magic Mushroom wrote:This is supposed do be an intellectually stimulating forum in the pursuit to advance our scientific knowledge into a greater understanding of the tools that lay before us.
One thing I don't like about this forum is the few people with multiple user IDs who sneak around badmouthing others. Don't like that at all. I'm telekom and always have been telekom and don't use any other IDs. I'm with forge on this one, multi user IDs plays into the hands of trolls. Another forum I use is plagued with one guy who everybody can spot, who uses around 7-8 IDs, baits people, answers his own posts as another user, and then bitches that there are people with a hidden agenda using multi IDs!!! INCLUDING the site administrator, whom I know well and is utterly bemused that anyone thinks he would do that...
I know lola recently revived the idea of banning unregistered users, which I don't personally want to see. But I would consider banning unlimited user IDs. You sign up to one ID, linked to an email address and your Live serial number, and that's it. If you forget your login you go back to Ableton and ask them nicely to help you out. Exit Trolls.

Re: I am appalled
that is a good idea actually...if it's linked to the serial number it would keep it civil...I mean some of the most bizarre funny and interesting conversations round here are almost always with guys whos handle I recognise....so it wouldnt kill that side of things, just might make people more inclined to avoid the really stupid shit like "adam jay has girl germs 50 times and no returns" (he does by the way cause I know he touched a girl so nyer!telekom wrote: But I would consider banning unlimited user IDs.
