MIDI Sync problem!!

Hello,

I have got a problem with the synchronisation via Abletons Midi clock.
I use Ableton clock to sync my Korg Electribe MK2 but there is always a little delay. When I record a loop from my Korg I have to warp it afterwards, what shouldnt be necessary, as I also want to run them both synced...without having to record the loops first..

I know this has something to do with the midi preferences, but I dont get it!!

Please help.....this is really annoying

Hi again,

I forgot to tell that for example in AUdiomulch everything runs synced perfectly, so it must have to do with ableton preferences..

...and did you check the midi sync delay in prefs->Midi/Sync? You can set an offset there.

Hi,

I use version 5.02 on a XP computer, with an ESI Juli Soundcard. 512 MB Ram, Pentium IV 1,8 GHz. And yes, I checked the sync/delay settings but nothing changed. When I use Ableton as slave and my Electribe as Master everything works fine and is perfectly synced. Otherway round not.

Does this problem have to do with the so much talked about midi bug??

Nope, the bug doesn't affect midi clock. If you want recorded audio files to be in sync, set the recording track to monitor OFF and adjust your clock offset in prefs.

When you adjust the clock offset in the midi tab in prefs, be double sure you selected the midi port your electribe is on first and THEN change that port's offset. I've done that a few times myself where I realized I was tweaking the offset for the wrong midi port and it was doing nothing. Duh...hit myself in the forehead.

You can set a different offset for each midi port. Double check you're tweaking the right one.

You should be able to get it spot on if you set monitor to OFF and adjust your offset by just a tad.

ok thanks a lot...i`ll try to adjust it in the evening...but can I hear the signal when turning monitoring to off?? I dont think so...

Sure you can, just monitor directly through the mixer or souncard.

You can also sofware monitor if you want since you're using beatclock. You will just have to compensate the offset more. You're fine with beatclock because there is no human intervention (perception due to monitoring) affecting the timing.

But never software monitor an external synth when recording your playing live, it'll mess you up.
