additionally, i am deep in the throughs of some important projects started with live...so in considering that and weighing in the time invested in learning the program...i am not going to be abanonding the software soon...but it should work better than it currently is.

exactly where im at, total love/hate relationship - no way can i afford time investment and hassle to switch over to another main sequencer at this point.

ive been working with this so long now my head just thinks a certain way to solve problems, if i tried to switch now it would be a huge hassle and i would miss being able to solve them the way i do now.

only answer is to keep ploughing thru, deal with the poor performance and bugs, and be really persistant about letting them know it needs to be fixed.

Live also wants version 5.03!!!

Post by ian hands » Tue Nov 29, 2005 10:46 am

I'm finding using 5.02 to be really stressful, it crashes CONTINUALLY!!
I've removed all my 3rd Party plug-ins and it's still the same.

Living in fear of getting a strange error where it thinks the .als file has been created by a newer version!! (the mysterious 5.03 version presumably!!) rendering the set useless and unreadable (this has happened a few times).

Sometimes the CPU usage goes randomly over 1000% and everything grinnnnnds to a cacophonous halt…

What about this midi latency, its driving me crazy.
And lots more bugs.
5.02 is for me a totally unusable piece of cr*p....

They really should have worked on V4 for awhile, they lost credibility with me, but they got my money.... :(

I totally agree, but still I have to get this anger out of my system so here goes:

" !!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH !!! "

wait....... there is more...

" !!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH !!! "

Learned to live with the sloooooooooow editing - hey go make some coffee right. But what's up with the "Live getting slower and slower as you work"-BUG!

When I start my latest project it will play my song flawlessly the first couple of times, but as I work and edit the song Live start to run slower and slower and has more and more problems playing. In the end I need to restart and start over. Each time I have to do this I build up a little more anger and a little less creativity.

Well, whatever. Looking through this BUG-forum reveals so many stories similar to mine. People getting frustrated, asking why this product they paid real money for has such fundamental problems that it's simply or close to impossible to work with.

And don't give me any of that "Hey- it might be your system or maybe you are doing somthing wrong". Stop right there. I took the class, bought the t-shirt did all the tweaks - became a professional fulltime debugger. Quit my job and left my girlfriend just to have time enough to keep tweaking, restarting and looking at blue-window-screens each time Live - once again - does not close properly. - and no I'm not going to wear an Ableton Hoodie before I can honestly recommend this piece of software to anyone, which I can't at the moment.

Yes, that actually does feel better - getting it out. And hey, my music PC just finished restarting - how nice.

i used to feel a lot more like you do and still agree with that last statement.

but i think its highly dependent on the kind of music and projects you do whether or not you can tolerate the problems.

for straight audio and minimal type stuff it excells at what it does, because thats the foundation it was built on

for anything that requires a lot of tracks, MIDI, and VST instruments and effects its totally not a working product.

the deeper you dig the more you find thats falling apart, unfinished, slow, sticky, unfinished and just plain NOT working as advertised.

it really, really needs to be fixed man.
.
I agree with thw voice of wisdom. SO true when digging deep and find out flaws in software. Minimal is easy any music with more becomes very difficult with Live. I have constant love hate relationship with live.

Hi folks,

we will jump into a small public beta for Live 5.0.3 very soon.
So I just ask for a bit of patience.

small public beta? what we need is a massive upgrade to a stable release ...

Hi Knarzer,

whatever your understanding of a "massive upgrade" :) is with "small beta" I was meaning a relative short beta period for every Live 5 user who want to participate. Same way we did it with previous updates.

This indicates Live 5 is not stable for your, so please provide me with more informations on these kind of problems.

regards,
Alex

Thanks for the advice ;)

since I bought L5 I am part of the (inofficial) beta testing program and in contact with the support team. I get an average crash rate of 1/hour. It's mostly non-reproducible crashes (copy/paste, undo, move clips & tracks ...) though.

My other big issue is the ultra bad gui performance (especially in arrangement view). Even if cpu usage is below 10%.

ciao

I'm glad to hear 5.03 is on the horizon. Because of all the problems I've had to constantly put up with while using Live, I was almost tempted to ditch it and try that new FL Studio 6 when it drops.
