Help. Live not working with MT4 & OS 9.2

Post by leeboy » Wed May 01, 2002 11:26 pm

Hello. I\'ve got four weeks to get a live set together for SONAR and I reckon I want to use Live + a MIDI controller (not sure which though. Pocket Control & Freak Live are too small. Has anyone used a Niche controller ?)

BUT I cannot get the demo to respond to MIDI.

Powerbook G3, 400 Mhz, 512 Ram, 9.2 & MT4

Installed OMS 2.3.8 several times but it doesn\'t see the MT4 (I don\'t think). I can select something called an Inter Application Something or Other ...... in Live but it still doesn\'t respond. Am I being stupid ? I\'ve never had to use OMS before as I only use Logic.

Can anyone help ?

since opcode bit the dust, oms hasn't been updated and new hardware drivers are no longer included with the oms install. try downloading the unitor oms driver from emagic.

Hi,

Me diehard-Pocket-Dial-user like to announce folowing:
I made a template song (for my own sake) with 942 contolers assigend.
The Pocket Dial has got 16 controlers (times) 4 banks (times) 16 midi channels, that equals 1024 controlers. It's realy bizarrr what controling posibilities ya got, a 24 track (Live) project, with eq, compression and/or delay on each track, all controlled by one Pocket Dial. In future i'll use a 10 meter midi cable, and perform front-stage or walk around.

Alternatives for Pocket Dial, other devices sending relative controlers:
Surface One, i find it ugly and it's much to expensive,
10 Controll, big brother of NI 4 Controll, nice for controling hardware, no need for such expensive device to controll software,
Freak Live, i don't know that controler,
...

BTW, i use Pocket Dial preset 111 for relative controlers.
BTW, i don't have shares or any other relationship with Doepfer.

;) Enjoy the music,

Frank

Thanks Frank. The Control Live is by Kenton. The Pocket Dial looks great but I want BIG KNOBS ! Yeh baby. Do you reckon you could put a guitar strap on the Doepfer ? That would be cool. I like the look of the Midiman Surface One but it\'s not going to be available until July / August.

Does anyone know if you can use the MIDI in on an Oxygen 8 to merge the data from another controller (maybe Pocket Dial) ? If that was the case I wouldn\'t need to bring a MIDI interface...

there is no midi in port on the oxygen 8, unfortunately... just two midi outs (oxygen out and usb out). only data from the oxygen itself gets sent in.

That is what i indend to do as well, only i find that i need to power the pocket dial... do you find that you need power to pd? 15 feet of midi is not big deal, but i cant find a 15 foot wallwart powersuply. If you dont use a power supply and your midi interface is previding the power.. what interface are you useing.

BIG KNOBS

Hi Lee,

> I want BIG KNOBS ! Yeh baby.

Those endless Dials are about 2cm in diagonal. Compared to PhatBoy pots, those are about 1.5cm.
Pots on standard mixing consoles have knobs of about 1 to 1,5cm.

Bigger is better, i'm also thinking about building my own controler, with big dials and big triggers.
I like the Doepfer CTM64 (contact to midi) kit for building a board of 64 triggers.
Those are future plans.

> guitar strap
Like the remote of a crane driver?
COOL, i haven't thought about that.

> ..your midi interface is previding the power..

No i use the Pocket Dial power supply. Power on the midi-in is not enough, according to Doepfer.
I'm thinking of putting both in one custom made cable.
Using a cable with 5 wires. 3 for midi and 2 for power. Put connectors on both ends of the cable and you got ONE cable.
A length of 15 meter / 45 foot should be posible.
...

The art of controling...

Sorry for posting anony...

Also very interesting:

-----
MidAir Wireless MIDI From Midiman
Midiman s new MidAir Wireless MIDI system uses a frequency hopping spread spectrum system in 2.4 GHz license free band for glitch-free wireless interfacing at a distance of 50 feet and beyond. Forward error correction stops corrupted midi data. Simultaneous operation of up to 4 systems is possible using Midiman s unique hopping codes. The MidAir can be powered either with an AC adaptor or internal AAA batteries.

Keep the cable as backup. Get wireless!!!
The power issue can be solved by battery's.

Live is Fun ;)
