yes it is correct, but when the VSTi is greedy or the song is CPU intensive, it shifts the notes too much ahead.lasercade wrote:So I'm trying to use the workaround and I'm having some trouble. Can anyone tell me if my procedure is correct?
1. I create a midi track 1 and add a software instrument. I set this track's monitoring to "IN"
2. I create a second miditrack and Record Enable it. I set monitoring to OFF and Record my midi to this track.
3. I take the recorded midi in track to and drag it over to track 1 and turn to AUTO.
When I do this, the resultant track is now EARLY instead of late (I'd say about a 32nd note. Can anyone give me any clues as to what might be happening and where to look to fix this?
Thanks for your help and I hope Ableton is working on a fix release very soon - I just purchased the software and was wondering why my playing had gotten so bad!!!

round and round we go...
Hey look, now this thread is right next to the "where is 5.0.3 thread".
Could this be one of the last posts on this thread...could it be true that this thread will die soon?! Maybe I'm gonna miss posting here. It's like a bad break up. I was getting so used to hanging here.
I think there could be light at the end of the tunnel boyz.

So what's the score here ?
No improvement in sight ?
6 months ago Alex was sort of realizing the problem while discribing it, 4 months later with 5.0.2 we found out they'd forgotten about the contradictions that were used as excuses.
Where are we now ?
in a DAW that can't record midi properly ???

I always had problems with midi & audio , but after reading this thread I thought my problems would be fixed by switching monitoring off on every track ...
today a friend of mine came by to record some raps :
- i used 1 impulse for raps
- 3 tracks of quantised (aka programmed with the mouse) midi routed to my virus B
--> all ran in perfect sync
BUT
even with monitoring swithed OFF on all tracks including the audio , the vocal track had a delay of 79 ms while my EMI 2/6 was set to a latency of 14 ms ... can anybody explain????????
how am I supposed to rationaly adjust the latency in ableton's preferences if there is absolutely no link between my soundcard's latency and the actual delay I get on my audiotracks ???????????

See the lesson (view menu/ lessons) about latency compensation. It helps you tweak the overall latency in your system, and you should be fine.

thx for the tip , feel kind of stupid never having checked that as most of the time I'm the first to scream RTFMHello,

I have to note though that the overal latency differs each time I try it (even with 10 sec intervals) : it goes from +- 75 to 95 so I set it to 85, but i guess that's more a driver issue with my emi2/6 (on winXP) than ableton instability . The midi-timing issue is solved though with the monitoring set to off
