What are some of your tricks for changing tempos in your sets? Right now, I'll have tracks at around 105 bpm and then I launch tracks that are around 90 bpm. What I've been doing is this: I play the set at 105 and then, when I want to shift tempos, I send the track to a ping-pong delay. Then, while the ping pong is going off, I launch a scene with some drums at 90 bpm and then go from there. It sounds okay because the ping pong draws attention away from the tempo shift. Any pointers? Later...

I try to make it as simple as possible. I cut directly from one track to the next. If the tempos are relatively close, it's quite seamless, as long as the outgoing track obviously ends on beat 4 and the incoming track kicks right in on beat 1.
I play live percussion, and sometimes I transition tempos with my own live Impulse drumming, or sometimes with a percussion clip. I have to play to a click track this way, and I use an IEM to make it as easy as possible. I'll just drum along to the outgoing track, drum as the tempo ramps up or down, then launch the new track with a footswitch when I'm ready.

I play drums with a Yamaha DD-55, which is a relatively inexpensive percussion controller. The velocity sensitivity isn't fantastic, but then again neither is my drumming! I use it to play one of 8 Impulse sets in live (Latin, dance, disco, FX, etc)
IEM is in-ear monitoring. Because I'm sometimes playing between tracks and need the incoming track to launch in time, I need to listen to a click track. I also use the IEM for monitoring the surround mix, too. You could use headphones, but I don't like the look or being constrained by the cable. I run around and get tangled up too much as it is!
I have the tempo mapped to a fader, although it would be easier with a MIDI pedal so I can drum with both hands. The other trick is to launch an automated tempo clip to ramp the tempo up and down. Obviously, with this technique, you need to have the ending and starting tempos defined, so it's not as flexible. I have looked at InTime, but I don't need any more complications at this stage!

check it out, if you use ctrl-r to rename a scene "xxxbpm" live will jump to that bpm when you trigger the scene.
so what i do is have elements set up to intro a song at any tempo (like midi versions of the drums for example). then have a scene that has the 'drop' of the track set to jump to the right bpm with the above techniqur.
mix the elements of the previous song out while bringing in the drums of the new one, then when the energy is right drop it, maybe throwing a splash or effect on top to ease the change.
with the right track, especially if there is a drop that is melody or fx only, this will work very well. great for going from hiphop or breaks to dnb or whatever.

Thanx for replying, although I'm dealing with a bit different situation.: I have a band, we all (5 people) play drums/percussions, kind of live d'n'b.. For this "set-up" I want/need Live to follow us! I don't want to follow the click/metronome because I don't want to lose the live felling of playing rythms/drums. For our band especially, this FEEL is extremelly important to keep.
At the moment I can play from Live only less-rythmical fx's, vocals, textures, etc. But I also want to play loops of a bassline or anything more-rythmical.

Tempo Changing
What I find works best is playing one track, and if you want to drop a track that is more than 10 BPM away, you need to find the midway point between the two songs. For example, if your master is 102 BPM and your slave track is 90 BPM, during the 102 song, slowly move the tempo down (i do 1 BPM for everyminute of the song). Once you get to about 95-97 BPM, your at the midway point and you can start to drop the other track in. It's good to keep in mind that if you take the tempo down very quickly, the audience will react and most likely look at you, giving you a funny look. It does not sound bad if you change the tempo in Ableton if you are not in re-pitch mode. If you mix two songs together, the audience will not likely notice that the song you just dropped has been moved up 5 BPM. However, we can do this with Ableton because pitch and tempo are independent of each other.
