Bought it last night -- up 'til 3 with 3 second slowness...

Hello,

After much thought and excitement I purchased Live 5.02 last night - and unfortunately was up very late
trying to resolve a basic concern, and didn't get further than that.

Which is -

when enabling a track for audio - i.e clicking the button red on a track (arming it) - there is a lag time of 2-3 real
seconds before it turns red. Also when I push a new click track to begin recording audio (through my Firewire 410)
there is another 3 second lag before the arrow operates, meanwhile I get the rainbow spinning-ball the Mac has when its bogged down
At the same time the timeclock on the bar doesn't move and then suddenly jumps ahead
to about 2.5 - 3.1 before beginning.


This had never occured whatsoever when using Live Lite 4,, which I've been using for a month
in preparation for this. When I tried Live 4 again last night, everything worked just fine - none of the above.

My laptop isn't the latest, but still should be more than up for it at this level.
It's an ibook 933 MHz G4 w/ 640 meg Ram running 10.4.3 - on top of that it now has a 7200 rpm internal hard drive,
which greatly improves performance....


Right now it feels like the program is unusable for the kind of quick acoustic recording, looping I want to do.
Maybe I'm missing something basic - but I can't imagine the record button should take 3 seconds to engage.

it only happens (w/ Live 4 too) when I have a large library of garageband
samples sitting in the window..for some reason? Must have to think
about that.....

check to see if your processor is maxed out during that three seconds. You'll know if it's your cpu if it is sitting at 100%...

Nope - only goes to 8-9%

I really think its about having those sample files open in the window -
there's a huge amount of material there (Garageband Symphonic
Instrument Pack) within one folder and somehow Live is thinking about it....

Moving out of that folder up one level, or reducing the clips within it (by searching for a word) - or being on another level (instruments, etc.) - than there is no problem


is this an issue for anyone else - that the program is slowed down by
viewing a large file?

you using asio drivers?
sorry i dont even know macs use asio but the delay sounds like the classic thing in windows of using the MME or other slow driver.

no, we use core audio...supposed to be good stuff....
maybe its about setting the latency, etc, haven't got
around to it yet...
