Matthew Herbet - What's he use?

Post by Nightrider » Tue Dec 13, 2005 3:19 am

Hey guys I presume that most people here know Matthew Herbet.

I was wondering if anyone has caught him live?

Also what equipment he uses for his mash ups?

I'm a big fan.

He's also getting into Live, using it with Lemur onstage these days...

An interesting read but not the nitty gritty I was after.

How does he play his stuff live? I mentioned somewhere that he uses a smapler and JESSE you said he's using Ableton now? Do you have anymore details?

Thanks

what I like about Matthew Herbet is his work is more than just music.

It's highly conceptual art!!

His music is great.

As far as High conceptual art?

I don't have any idea what high conceptual art is.

I know what conceptaul art is. I know what really challenging concepts are (I just ran away from a philosophy of science class with my tail between my legs,) but I REALLY want to know what constitutes as high concept art.

Sorry, but I've had to sit through a lot of bullshit art projects in class that parallel a lot of what this incredibly talented producer is saying.

I even lived with a former bandmate who had a masters in fine art and philosophy, and did nothing but Joseph Beuys inspired installation/performance art, and I STILL can't seem to get a grasp on just what "High Conceptual art" is.

Oh yeah, I had to sit through some seriously hadicapped art criticism this morning, and am currently waitng for a grade on a concept piece, so I'm eager for your opinion!

The BBC broadcast is great. This guy rocks.

Does anyone have a link for the Austrians wo make instruments out of fruits and vegetables?

I meant to point you to the video on that page "the story of esme's waltz"

it gives you an insight into what he uses and how he works (and some of his gear)

here is the video link (its RealPlayer format):

I remember Herbert was with a few musicians on stage, like, a saxophone and guitar player or smtg... it wasn't looking like a band though. there was kinda no interaction at all between him and them, but the concert was gud anyway... there was also a female singer, which helped
He also made "cd sounds" live :D
like he was breaking cds in front of the crowd, sampling the sound of it on the fly and then playing with it... yep, that is conceptual...

i love the vegetable orchestra idea, but i find these guys a little pathetic.
i thought their approach to music would be a bit tongue in cheek, but they seem to take theirselves very seriously... or maybe it was intentional...

the terrible thing is that it's very gimmicky at this point - even though the technology for doing seriously cool non-gimmicky stuff has been around for at least a few years. My fear is that Herbert will get ppl tired of this stuff before the rest of us can come along and make things right again :-|
