Anyone using a DM5 drum module?

I posted this in bugs and problems, but no responses.


I have an Alesis DM5 drum module sending midi notes to my midi in on my audio interface. The triggers come from drum pads that I play with sticks.

When I try to use the midi overdub feature on a midi clip I have a strange problem. The first pass of the loop records every note just fine. When I actually end the loop, and start repeating it, Live only captures a random note here and there.

I can still here the notes being triggered, they just don't get recorded.

I tried the same setup with my midi keyboard to try to narrow down the problem, and it worked fine. I can keep overdubbing on each pass of the loop with no problem.

This is strange because with the DM5 the first pass is fine. After the first pass it will record a few notes, but only randomly.

Maybe some difference with how it uses note on/off.....

Might not be turning the note off right away or something....

when i try to use the pads on my roland r-70 (finger pads)
it behaves similar to this

all though i find i don't get many notes on even the first pass..

it seems to send very very short notes.

To elaborate;

If I trigger an empty clip slot to start recording, it does fine untill I trigger the loop to end. At that point the loop starts repeating, and I can no longer record properly. (It's not the record quantization, I've checked different settings and with it set to none)

However;
If I double click in an empty clip slot to create a new clip, then trigger it to start recording, it won't record properly even on the first pass.

If it were the note lengths or the lack of note off messages, then I can't figure out why it works on the first pass??

This is a strange problem.

please check if your overdub button is turned on and that the monitor button is set to Auto?

my roland r-70 behaves exactly the same way...

i still think it sends really short notes, as all it does is trigger samples to start playing

but your right, not sure why it works on the first pass... i hadn't noticed this behavior as I'v only recorded with it on existing clips
