Incorrect Track Status Display
Why am I still getting an incorrect number of beats in the track status display? When I record a 32 beat/8 measure clip I am still quite often getting an incorrect display of 31 beats... this is the same for 4 beats, 8 beats, or any other recordings... live is still giving me an off by one error when recording clips.

In live 5.0.2, when I record a new clip that is for example eight measures, it will display 31 beats. This loop is in reality 32 beats, and it will play looped properly. In fact the little circle seems to understand or at least time circling around properly. The loop is in perfect sync with everything else.
This hasn't been a problem for me for a while, but recently while recording clips again it has started up. I somewhat recently changed my template, which may be attributed to this issue, but besides that I couldn't imagine what the issue is. I may try deleting my template and creating a brand new one to see if that helps.

As another test, I just deleted the .asd file for one of the offending tracks, it is now displaying the incorrect loop information again. This seems to be something wrong with the .als file perhaps. If I drag the .wav file into the project it then correctly knows that it is 32 beats. If you'd like to see the .als file I can email it over. I am going to continue playing around with recording/templates to see if I can figure out what is going on.

firstly you could try if you can reproduce this too in the latest Live beta.
Furthermore some more questions:
- On which computer hardware do you use Live?
- Do you refer to only Audio clips, only MIDI clips or to both?
- How do you stop the recording in your workflow? Do you use the Clip-Stop button or do you click clips's red arrow to stop and immediately play the clip?

I'm running on a Toshiba M200 Tablet PC. It has 2GB memory, 2.0Ghz Centrino Processor. I've got Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, with SP2 installed.
I can certainly load up the latest live beta and load up the sets to see if that helps any, I'll look in to finding the link to download it. In 5.0.2 I have been able to reproduce this bug recording clips into different audio tracks. So far I have only seen this effect audio clips, and I have never seen this happen on a midi clip so far. It is happening only when I am resampling/recording in new audio from another track and does not happen when I load in an existing .wav file.
My recording workflow is roughly as such...
- I will cue up a track that I want to record, and let it keep playing.
- I then will select the Audio From source and chose the track/resampling
- I then arm the track for recording.
- After I have finished recording the clip I will either any old clip stop button in the track or I'll use the master track stop button, occassionally I will use the stop all clips button. NOTE: I never use the clips read arrow or the arrangement stop button.
As a few strange issues I have noticed... When the beats number is off by one (it is always showing -1 what it should when it is wrong) the sample information for the start is always 1.1.1 (well I haven't tried changing it yet) and the length is always a full measure, so no 7.3.0 or something funny like that.
Stranger still, if I break the loop in half... so I change an 8.0.0 length loop to 4.0.0, it will then correctly display 16, but when I move it back to the 8.0.0 position it goes back to being off by one with a 31.
I'll see if I can keep playing with this to come up with a way to make this repeatable, but so far it seems to be rather random how this bug shows up. Currently at the moment the only way to tell that a recording actually has this issue is to play it and see what the number beside the circle displays as there appears to be nothing in the sample view that would indicate that there is an issue with the loop.
I was just able to reproduce this by recording on a resampling track using the record button, followed by the red blinking red arrow to retrigger it.
As I go further down the rabbit hole... I am getting live to behave in very strange ways.
I have an empty arrangement view... but if I stop say around 76.2.3 or whatever... then type in 70 and hit enter, it will set to 70.1.1, however when I press record from a stand still it is starting at around 67.x.x. I know it is starting at something other than 1.1 because the recording is not immediately starting, and it is waiting until the next measure to record. By doing this I have so far only *once* been able to get it to give me a clip that says it is 3 measures (even though it really is four). I've been trying to come up with a way to make this repeatable at 20 bpm, but so far haven't quite figured out the 'trick' to it.
When I learn more I'll try to keep you updated.

The best way to reproduce this that have seen so far that is more reproducable that others...
- Set BPM to 130.00, for some reason I cannot get this to work at 20.00bpm, and set your arrangement to 1.1.1.
- Get a loop playing (in this case I have a midi clip), and then use the arrangement stop.
- On audio track setup audio from to be resampling and arm the track
- Start Recording a clip and while it just starting to recording, delete it.
- Begin recording another clip in the same slot immediately (before the second measure begins)
- As soon as the clip starts recording data click on the red play button so that you end recording at the end of the measure and it will show you the incorrect number of beats value.
For me, this seems to work 100% of the time now. It seems to have something to do with deleting a clip and then starting a new recording in the same measure, but this has been the easiest set of steps for me to reproduce this issue.
EDIT: I just tried those steps in a brand new file and it seems to be 100% repeatable in an old set, new set or anything in between. I guess I am just too damn quick for my own good sometimes when deleting and arming a new clip to record
