I loved reason when i first got it, but then i wised up (AND THIS IS JUST A PERSONAL TASTE), but after working with so many other pieces of software, there is nothing in reason anymore that i dont think is superior in something else. I just dont feel it kicks the crap out of anything in any aspect. There is always something better.

I know alot of people swear by it and thats all they need. Cool for them, but i have found many better ways.

JACKAL & HYDE wrote:The engine is absolute CRAP by any standard and your locked into thier ugghhhh... plugs whatever. If you want better results with the same type of "rewire" plug/daw wanna-be prog get 'Orion' at least for gods sakes. It's just like "reason" exept you can use DX/Vst plugs and Vsti's until your head blows off with a better engine to boot and it rewires like a mofo. Shit, if I was a new programmer I'd get neither and just hammer Ableton until a smash record came out, but if I had to choose, I'd def pick 'Synapse Orion' over slap ass 'over hyped' "Reason' any damn day. If I was dead and in Hell, and the devil said he'd let me go if I made him a smash fckn record in any genre; but all I could use was 'reason', I wouldn't even try. I'd just jump into the pit and get it over with. At least with Orion I'd have a prayer. For around the same price....
maybe you should realise that a lot of era-defining "smash records" were actually made with equipment considered crap at the time. the TB-303 and to a lesser extent the tr 808 and 909 were fuckin commercial disasters and considered crap by most, but someday someone got creative enough to overcome his prejudices and pulled out a smash sound out of these machines

Like it or not, reason had earned it's place in music's history and it's up to us to make it sound good or bad...

btw Im not a reason fan, but I respect the company and the software...
But Im sure before you die and go to hell, you'll tell your grandchildren about the pioneering days of computer music and will remember that good old reason with a lot of tenderness and nostalgy... but its gonna be too late... 8O

I think a little more respect is in order for Jackal and Hyde. These guys are amazing. If you dont know who you are referring to, you might bite your tonge if you ever saw them live. These guys (in my opinion) are some of the masters of creativity with little resources.

I'm not so sure that would be up to you to decide, in HELL that is, the Devil may have different plans for you. You can't just tell the devil your going to go jump in a pit. You might go to jump in the pit and he say's "Oh no Lad, I've other plans for you" and chains you to a rock so that birds can eat your face for all eternity.

Wow, the only thing the devil keeps doing to me is burn my toast. I must be lucky, or just boring.

I don't really use Reason much anymore but I love a couple of it's tools and samples. The Orkester set was the shiz at one time. I have played with 3 a little and I have to say grouping instruments together greatly improves the sound and does not hit the cpu as hard as I would have expected. There are quite unbelievable sounds you can make by stacking 20 subtractors then running it through Reasons mastering tools.

As inis stated in a previous post. Jackal & Hyde are quite huge. Try running a search or going to myspace and listen to some of their stuff. They make the biggest, dirtiest, electro-goth-breaks around!!! They have also been around for quite sometime and have quite a few vinyl releases and feature cds.

I heard Ninjas never pay to use pay toilets. Can you ask him (before he throws the star) ?

Reason was awesome when I was used to nothing but hardware, it was software that made sense. Now that I'm totally used to plug ins and software, Reason's caught in the middle, it's not software with a cool GUI, it's not hardware with gobs of knobs to twist.

It does sounds flat, I can often tell a Reason track from its sound. BUT tone and sound quality are what you make of it. In the right hands post processing can shine any turd. Use what works with you, there's no single answer for everyone. Entire genres of music are based on the quirkyness of the tools used to make them (TB 303, MPC, 808, breaks)

...but people have done far more with far less.
