Live never makes it to UI
Live never makes it to UI
Hey guys -- got an issue here. I just recently upgraded my computer and did a fresh install of Live et al. Problem is, when i run Live it goes through the motions in the splash screen and then the UI never appears. I can see it running in my process tree, but that's about it...
If I try again, it tells me that Live has encountered an error and that i shoudl save my work and try running it again -- slight problem, however, since the i never see the darn UI and in turn, there is no .als to save in teh first place!
anybody have this issue? Figured i'd ask here before i go and try a reinstall..
thanks!

You should provide information about the computer you use, the OS, and which version of Live you use. That could help in getting clues about your problem.
Kind regards,

Live 5.0.3 - IBM Thinkpad R51 1.5ghz Centrino - 1,5 Go RAM - 7200 RPM 2nd HDD intern - RME Multiface - Windows XP Pro SP2

i recently added rebirth to my machine and it came with quite a few plug-ins. my machine was taking awhile to load. i am running FL Studio, Sonic Foundry's Suite, and a few others. i have about 10 gigs of music files, and i was wondering if this could be causing a problem when i start ableton live 5.
it hits the splash screen and shows that something is happening with the works flashing vst's and what not the processor is reading. it seems to be going over the same files. i sat there for about 3-5 minutes with no change.
i did have a warning about C:\hiberfil.sys not being accessible but i turned off my hibernation like suggestd.
the warning went away.
i even went and reinstalled ableton.
same thing
anyonehave any suggestions??

Hi dphouse84,
firstly please send me the log file of Live together with your forum name and the name or link of this thread:
"C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Ableton\Live 5.0.2\Preferences\Log.txt"
regards,
/Alex

So you can watch some kind of "activity" in the splash screen but it never comes to an end?it seems to be going over the same files. i sat there for about 3-5 minutes with no change.

yes it loads and there is a scripting like it is checking for vst's and other plugins like when loading photoshop or other programs (small print on bottom area of ableton splash)
I am wondering if it is a problem with Active X, maybe a virus i just happened to get while loading, or if it is a problem with AVG Software for security.
have you ever heard of these issues or their being a problem with the C:\hiberfil.sys?
I am at work now but will try and retreive the info you are asking for when i get home.

i recently loaded Rebirth and a few other programs from "computer music" magazine.
after i got Rebirth working (and had some fun) I closed out of all other programs & rebooted. Then I went to go open ableton live 5 (and it always worked fine before) it won't make it past the splash screen.
i have been scratching my head on this one all day.
when i first loaded ableton it made referance to the C:\hiberfil.sys\ file after it tried loading. i read about this and then turned off the system restore and hibernation in windows.
robooted...
and this is basicallly where i am left now.
stuck looking like snoopy
i have a dell 1.2Ghz 40gig hard drive 512ram. penium 3m w/external m-audio sound card
all of my other programs work fine... for now at least.
i am pretty savvy with a pc, but am a little short on vocabulary because i haven't had many problems in while with software and the jargan is always becoming more vast (very new with pc studios).

Hi dphouse84,
it sounds as would you have setup C:\ as the your Plug-in folder. That could explain why something like the hibernation file is accessed.
You should at least temporarily rename Live's preferences file.
So go to the preferences folder of Live:
"C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Ableton\Live 5.0.2\Preferences\"
There rename the file "Preferences.cfg" to something like "Old_Preferences.cfg" and start Live again.
In that case it should start with default preferences.
