Its pretty dead if most people quit producing that style of music. Music producers and lovers are much alike that we move on to different taste. Techno is not died just as hoffman say there is only 20% of good techno. It used to sound cool with Dertroit until the German and sweden producers spoil it by making only loop techno. Shame, techno was emotion music to make the body dance and the mind think. Loop techno no.
probably the most misused term in electronic music - mainly because Average Joe who listens to top 40 and couldnt give a rats arse about it will call all electronic music techno.....the term "techno" gets used to describe anything with a 4/4 beat by some people who are into rock bands and hate electronic sounds...Moody wrote:What is techno?

Don't forget England and people from Spiral 23 if you give any historic definition of techno style. Not to say "those where first" or whatever, but me think SP 23 is good techno and participated a bunch in the elaboration of a style !

When I can be bothered, I try to compose "techno" that isn't the usual dub-delay wank, glitch-toss etc etc. Problem is there are too many producers, not enough composers.

Speaking of Sun Electric, I heard this amazing S.E. track on a Future Music cd once - it had a weird reversed string sample in it, and was called something rural, like "sheep" something-or-other. Must've been somewhere between 1991/2001 (?)... Any anoraks know what it was called and where I can buy it?
