Pro-53 stops responding to UC-33 when recording

If I have my UC-33 set to control the pro-53 doing a filter sweep, as soon as I hit record the knob on the UC-33 stops controlling the Pro-53.

I seem to be able to record automation into the clip in session by having OVR pressed, but it will record and loop what ever I have the bar set to, so if I want to record a whole long section of filter sweeping then I have to set that controller in the clip envelope to unlinked then give it a long loop, then I have to do this for every parameter I want to control

does in 5.02 as well - in fact if it's playing and I play with the controller knob then hit F9 the note stops and a new clip starts overwriting the old one in arrange with no notes in it
