How many of you are using Reason in conjunction with Live?

Post by FORMAT » Mon Dec 19, 2005 8:57 am

.... and how do you rate it compared with similar solutions (VST/AU plug-ins that do similar things, such as synths and samplers/drum instruments)? Is there an advantage to using Reason?

Looking forward to your opinions

after someone made a poll, not so long time ago, about who was STILL using reason... (in a first moment I voted for NOT Anymore!) I changed my mind and started to use it again...
Whe I need quickly to get a sound I open reson, mate, it's the easiest and faster to use...isn't it?
I still use it almost everyday... but I do hate the seq, so I rewire it... but I hate rewire as well...
So lastly I've just been laying out sounds of all types, exporting them as audio files and then mangling with them in live (I really enjoy playing with clip envelopes, or cuting and splitting audio files with live!)
I just rewire it if I need a main melody, for example... But its sound is quite "reason-ated"... So:
if I need a clean sound or a different one I just use something else, not reason for sure...

So, yes, I still use it :D

PDC will not work with rewire so that pushed reason right out of my workflow. Been trying to sell it for months.

The maelsrom is a madman...The combinator is really fun too. Reason is also really light on CPU...

started out with reason back at 1.0, but got fed up with the limitations by the time 2 came along (no audio recording being the worst), but getting into Live gave it a new lease of life for me via re-wire. It's great for making a huge variety of sounds which I can mangle to within an inch of their life in Live. Mind you I'd like it even better if the modules were all VSTs.

hey format,

good variety of functional sounds that can be spiced up.
easy on the cpu.
Rewire'd apps like Rreason enables you to create a larger project
with respect to the system (cpu, RAM usage) ---> more efficient.
i'll take that over a stack of VSTI's within Live.

When you all say "easy on the CPU", does that apply for Macs as well?
I've got an oldish machine.... 867Mhz G4.

I was running Live, Max and Reason on an 867 pbook for YEARS. Not to date your computer, but It worked fine for me, and I was TRYING to max it out.

However, I think this thread would be better served to ask who ISNT using Reason and LIve together, and I think I can safely say, Jackal and Hyde ARE NOT using them together...

I love Reason!! Always have and version 3, especially with the new Combinator has given it a new lease of life. There was a kind of thiness to previous versions of Reason but version 3 with Combinator has addressed that issue. Great sounds that can match anything out there. It's up to the user toe xploit the full capabilities. Plus it seem more CPU efficient running in rewire within Ableton, or am I imagining things?

My two bobs worth!
