however the minamal/micro sound is totally consuming me these days but i still like it banging.. i like to cover all these sides of techno in my set (makes nice waves)

really i like it most because it is fun to beat mix...the simplicy of the tracks makes them work well for mad mixing and tricks.

plus it seems like all the best (skillz wise) dj's are playing it to

other detroit producers not doing strictly techno are Moodyman and Theo Parrish, Recloose, Omar S...

a lot of good stuff being released regularly, people saying techno is dead have been watching too much Pop Idol.

In terms of clubbing and vinyl sales for a particular release (most releases typically 1000 max nowadays) i'd say techno was in a lull but is not dead.

In a lot of places techno doesn't draw people in to clubs anymore too.

In terms of the quality of stuff that is coming out i'd say we've had a particularly good year for techno (check rush hours family of labels, new religion, iridite, digital soul modern love, point one etc etc for proof).[/b]

totally, and then if you look beyond the limited scope of what people call techno you have the broken beat scene with nubian minds, mustang, bugs in the attic, the electro revival with drexciya, dynarec, utlradyne, the quality dubby techno releases from DIN in Germany, the stuff from ableton's monolake, Anthony Shakir, surgeon and the british muder boys, clone and bunker in holland, really exciting fucking great records...if you know where to look...

Thanks Mike - like I said to be fair I pull the minimal stuff off the wall just about everytime I roll into the store

the only thing so far that actually has a beat worth picking up I've heard is stuff on Perlon (but even then it's kind of like...)

thanks for mentioning point.one. I've put the link back in my sig. the tangible rekkid arrived yesterday and will be in the shops soon. there are sound clips on the site. Look out for future releases by bumper and another voltaic release in the new year.

You've identified the problem already. What happened to THE REST of techno as a genre? Leaving out soft and loud for a bit, all that seems to be released these days is stuff that is a variation on minimal, funky, latin, bangin', hard etc. I'm fucking sick of it, and I can't be the only one that feels this way.

I actually liked that record I didn't pick it up though -

have you ever noticed sometimes you see a dj play and spot his set (especially Donald) - you'll go find a few of those records and buy them - play them out and they have like 10% of the effect they had when so and so played them

that's how I felt about Domino - I could totally see Marco droppin' that and it blowing up - i could see people not dancing and leaving the dance fllor to go to the jungle room when i dropped it
