Personally I think this is Bull! 2.1 just came out not too long ago, and suddenly a new update? what happened to 2.2, 2.5... or any other update? And to make it even worse, I just upgraded in July, that means I missed the upgrade date! Ableton should have concentrated on fixing 2.x instead of tring to make money off yet another update...

I have a hard time sympathizing with this! If the update includes at least some of the features people endlessly ask for on this forum then it will be well worth the price. Of course, it's each person's choice whether to purchase the upgrade or not--it's not mandatory. After all, some folks still like 1.5. In any case, we should at least wait until we've used it to start complaining about Live 3.

Tell me about it! We'll have to try it out when we return, covered in playa dust.
I'll be camped with WooNami Village (Literal and Dogma).
Ableton Live shall be a part of the WooNami Bus that shall thoroughly ROCK the Playa for the third straight year. Myself (Solovox) on keys, Ivan DePrume (of White Zombie) and the guitarist from Sepultura! Yikes!
Playa-Funka-Tronica! Come by and let's swap love stories about our favorite music program...
See you on the Playa...

I think once we see the features of the Live 3 beta we'll be able to gauge whether this is worth it if you don't make the cut for the free upgrade. for instance, if you can assign midi controls to effects parameters, some sort of Vsti workaround (other than reason), etc. then that is definetly worthy of the 3.0 tag, otherwise, it's hard to imagine what other major improvements 3.0 will have. But let's save our judgements until they release the beta!

Oh joy! Another piece of audio software to test!! People used to get paid or recompensed for that y'know? Then when any "bugs" crept through that/those people would get a bollocking or dropped from the team and someone more reliable replaced them. Kind of hard in a blind test really where anyone on the net can download and with no structure to the "beta test" phase supposedly underway.
Do we get a list of what it is we are actually testing specifically and a report from to fill in? Or do we just load up and marvel at the new features and hopefully come across any anomolies and drop an email if so?
This isn't a beta-test programme. It's a luke warm attempt to see if everything "seems okay". It's advertising. You doubt me? How is it we have been getting all of these silly little bugs occuring and reoccuring since v?.?? Unstable version > more stable version > whoops ned to roll back a version > function doesn't work how it used to > oh now it does again.
All it means is those with any sense won't buy/install anything until at least a few weeks after release to assimilate user feedback. Because we all know, going by past track record, that there's every reason to believe some things may be off-kilter. And if everyone waited for a few weeks for user response before buying guess what?? Not many would sell really would they? As opposed to having the confidence that the testing was done where it should be done... in the development environment, not in the public arena to earn feelgood factor badges and pre-launch advertising.

re:above post
do people actually have that many problems with Live, or is this just losers talking shit? My guess is the latter. Live has been far and away the most stable audio program i have ever used. other than shittily compiled VST's, i have had no problems with it at all, and after coming from the Cubase world, it's hard to believe how smooth things CAN be. Live is the greatest audio app ever, and the stability has been astounding (the performance, in osX, has been less exciting, but it's still very useable in 2.1.1)
I love you Ableton!
I love you Ableton!
And I love them too. They are a creative team of programmers/musicians. But let's not get all sycophantic just so we all feel like were in a nice cosy club for the hell of it. There are threads in the bugs forums with plenty of people stating problems, comfirming with each other even. So it's not all shit bud as rosy as the world seems to be with you. Go take a look and tell them they are all talking shit as you put it. Go tell the Mac people they are talking shit for wanting some optimisation. Go tell he windows users suffering freezes in 2.1.1 they are talking shit because you're setup magically smells of roses.
Live is great and it can and will be a whole lot better if people don't turn blind eyes to things that need fixing before major revisions are even thought about being worked on let alone asking us to then beta-test it. Which doesn't seem to do a heck of a lot of good anyway judging by the stupid mistakes that filter through.
