Oh, bittersweet DAW, why do you torment me so?
Alright whatever. So here's what I did wrong:
As I was opening the first Session, I looked at the location of the folder (with songs I've been working on) in my external FW800 drive. As I've been pieceing the album together, I've found it bothersome that when I need to go to that folder, I have to click through 4 sub-catagories, scrolling up and down, to arrive at the location of the folder that has the songs in it. If only PT LE had the lovely "Open Recent Set" functionality that Live has, but no.
So before I opened the first song I thought, forget this, I'll just move the location of the folder in my FW drive so it's not in the distant sub-catagory any longer, I'll move it to the top so it's the first folder I see when I click to open a Session. So I clicked on the FW800 drive icon on my desktop, scrolled down and found the album's folder, and grabbed and dropped it all the way to the top.
Then I went back into PT and went through the motions to open a Session. Sure enough the floder was now in the 2nd column of the drive, I clicked it and clicked on the song I intended to work on.
Error, error, file allocation blah blah. Would you like PT to relink automatically? Yes. Couple minutes go by, one track out of 24 appears. Nothing happens, etc, etc, etc. Start pulling out hair, steam shoots out ears.
Then my studio partner gets home at 11PM and she's got a bunch of stuff from Ikea. Spend the next 3 hours building a cool kitchen counter shelf unit. Get 3/2 hours of sleep. Then I write this post.
Help.
