Me too but...

I'd like that too since most Mac users feel a bit shortchanged and every update has cost money. I'm sure it's not going to happen though.

My guess is that Live 2.1.1 was Ableton's big attempt to make it up to Mac users (the update was mainly for the Mac; PC bg fixes were minimal) without having to charge them an upgrade fee. Live 2.1.1 was too little too late, but I genuinely thank Ableton for at least trying. They could have as easily not released any updates beyond 2.03, citing possible PC user dissatisfaction (which has indeed occurred due to some PC users experiencing more problems with 2.11 than 2.03).

Ableton would probably say they don't have enough main developers to develop both Live 2.5 and Live 3 at the same time so it's one or the other; with the final choice being obvious. Well, they'd better deliver ALL the goods with Live 3 then.

Altivec for Version 3 then...

Post by ajkandy » Sun Aug 31, 2003 10:30 pm

While they've given us some tantalizing peeks at new features (the envelopes etc.) this weekend (Aug 30) which rock, it would be nice if someone from Ableton would confirm if they're Altivec-enabling version 3 for OS X. I've posted in General about this, it makes no sense that Reason and other softsynths can run dozens of instruments and effects without reaching the limits of even a moderately fast G4, while Live chokes on 2 tracks and 1 reverb.

I never even thought about it, but the fact that Live is not Altivec enhanced (if thats the correct terminology) is very disappointing. I hope that they add this in the future. It would be so beneficial.
