Bye for now

Post by tgessner » Thu Dec 29, 2005 12:26 pm

Folks,

I am giving up. I am tired of fiddling around with Live 5, trying to make the software work instead of spending the little time I have making music.

I admit i had high expectations with regards to Live 5 and since the program ideally supports the way I compose, I had the hope to make Live 5 my main sequencer. This is not going to happen. In fact, I decided to stop using Live altogether. Why? Here is a list of what happened this morning with 5.0.3 - a typical morning with the program:

9.00 am: Starting my session, Live 5 will not recognize my Mackie Control any more. It did so unitl I ended my last session yesterday night at 2 am. Hm.

10.00am: After deleting preferences, re-starting my machine and the peripherals, Live recognizes my Mackie Control again, but will only play crackles out of my MotU Traveler

10.30: After another restart of the whole setup, we are up and running and I finally start playing. Deciding to use 2 instances of GuitarRig I find that Live's CPU usage meter goes to 100% and produces crackles instead of sound. On a 2.5GHz Quad with 2.5GB of RAM? You are kidding me.

11:00am: Deleting Live 5 from my machine and returning to Digital Performer to begin the project from scratch.

Apparently, something went seriously wrong with the re-design of the software from V4.x to V5 and still with 5.0.3, Live performs like an early beta rather than a stable release candidate.

My vedict after many frustrating hours: Not useable for production.

Regards,

Thomas

live really hates you :P

i think in the beginning it's like every software to set up. there is lots of messing around with parameters and getting your periphereals to work, i bet this was also the case in dp. but when you coped with everything, live is just the best in place. try again when you got some more free time.
