anybody using the presonus inspire 1394?

Post by nosuch » Mon Dec 19, 2005 3:07 pm

I am interested in it for price and size and the possibility to stack units to get more channels...

Is anybody using it and like to post his or her experience?
I am thinking about firebox and firepod as well, so: how are the presonus preamps in general?

thanks

I'd just like to add that I've had an eye on it as well - it has the exact amount of features I need.
mbp 2.66, osx 10.6.8, 8GB ram.

I wonder if the absence of physical controls may be a door slammer.
I am recording a lot and adjust the inputs and monitor level on my tsacam usb interface now. so i don't know if the all virtual control is for me.

so i had an eye on the firebox and then saw the inspire. i like the idea of stacking units so i can get another 4 channels for like 200 enytime I need it.

but i never heard a presonus and never heard an opinion about the preamps...and this is mission critical to me...
maybe I'll gett one by mail order and return it if I do not like it.

some presonus stuff is real nice. i've heard the mp20 pre, and its nice. i have the cheap tube pre, and it sounds pretty good to me, especially for the price. i had the smaller firewire interface they make (not the inspire) and it sucked for me, it poped and clicked when i tried to use it with live or DP4, or Peak. returned it. now i have no interface.

I have the firebox and it works great on both my mac and pc. I'd go as far to say its the best cheap interface out there. The pre's on it are decent. If you want better, then maybe you should check out the onyx 400f.

Btw..get the firebox..over the inspire..its a mixerless setup...with volume knobs and gains.

Thats a tremendous advantage..The inspire might be good for someone doing a LIVE PA in a club an just needed a simple IO.

here's the kicker on this - the inspire does not come with "presonus preamps", it states that it comes with preamps but they are not the presonus quality which i think are pretty decent. i plugged my condenser mic into the inspire and couldn't even get a strong signal - i thought something was wrong. build quality is so so - the firewire in was pretty lose and rocked back and forth on the unit itself.

i had the inspire from friday until today and just upgraded with a trade in for the firebox. my core audio out of my mac blew away the sound quality of the mix coming out of the inspire's phones jack (and my ear is not that discerning). the inspire was kind of tinny sounding - hollow.

i would pay the $100 more and get way more - including a software mixer that directly correlates with Live's headphone cue out (although i don't know how to set that up yet)

the other thing, not having tweakable external knobs sucks as it takes far longer to alt + tab the windows and mouse click down gains
