Questions about playing guitar with Live..

Post by acibahia » Tue Jan 03, 2006 10:23 pm

Hello,
First of all Happy New Year!
I have a general question about Live:

I'm a guitar player and I'm planning to buy Live for performing gigs.

My question is:

is it possible to set up a midi foot controller to change effects of the plugin Amplitube? And can I set up a function that make it possible to create guitar loops on the fly (like with the Loop Station Boss RC-20)

Many many thanks

Chester

I'm not a guitarist, so I didn't watch all of it, but this video may help.

Bass, fcb 1010, and keyboard into m-audio audiophile into iBook G4 into live. In live i have 4 tracks, Track 1 is always triggerd with loopy llama in it set to toggle mode so i use my fcb1010 to trigger record clear and pause. Track 2 has guitar rig in it for distortion and wah effects but i odnt use it too much. Track 3 i have set to always monitor and it has whatever drum sounds from impulse i want and i have it triggerd on and off by the fcb1010. and track 4 is the same set up as track 3 except i have native instraments B4 in it to play ogran sounds with my keyboard. Fun little set up

You can totally set up loops on the fly. You should be able to control Amplitube. I use other pedals for things distortion, etc., but have set up the FCB 1010 to arm and launch. I'll then use the expression pedals to control sends, track volume, and reverb, delay or effects. It works pretty well once you get the hang of it.
FCB is tough to set up, but once you learn it, no problem...

Any midi foot contoller should work. I have used Rolands, Digitechs, whatever, even an organ pedal set, as long as it is midi. The easiest way is to midi map your controls through live's internal map. Click the midi icon or [ctrl+m], then select the parameter you wish to control, such as track arm or scene select, then simply hit the pedal you wish to map it to. If live recognizes the msg, it will display the controllers # and midi msg. This can be extremly handy with expression pedals. One of my fav's is to create an auto filter, set to band pass ot low pass and map the freq to the exp pedal. Instant wah! Back to your question, yes, it will work like an RC-20. I also suggest you try it for lauching scenes and clips for your backing parts.

That is extremely interesting..
It sounds like there are lots of possibilities.
I'm currently using an Edirol UA-25 usb sound card with my iBook G4 and 512 of ram (which might be not enough..)
I think a firewire sound card would also be much faster and reliable regarding latency, right?
