DBlueGlitch: can't praise that plugin enough!

Post by xuoham » Wed Jan 04, 2006 3:45 pm

First off, as its creator Kieran Foster (DK) says:
"...while it is quite possible to achieve pleasing results simply by allowing the plugin to generate everything for you automatically, it is not intended to be a lazy man's tool for instant IDM creation. If you use it as such you will only eventually end up with boring, generic results. Glitch does not write your music for you. Its power comes from using it creatively as an extra interesting layer to your own original creations."
But if you're looking for the ultimate in terms of endless random variations on a single loop, this is the shit! So well conceived, and flawless with Live5, plus zero latency (Yeeiii!!!), neat interface, cpu light, etc...
Makes you forget supatrigga, mg triggergate, and the likes easily (no offense...).
And only 30 Euros!! Well, this is such a good way to start 2006 (just purchased it...) !!
I use it to add some variations on the loops i just made when i do live looped guitar impros and especially when focused on playing on top of myself. You can have variations that are subtle, don't occur too much (CC on wet/dry mix), and are miles away from instant ready-made glitch cliches.
Check it out HERE.
Highly recommended!
Mentioned also in this topic by Mexique, Conny, Davy, Machinate...

I'm demoing it, very nice plugin, still haven't checked it's midi capabilities, which I'm going to do tonight.

Yep, got glitch a few monthes ago. Love the little booger. :D
Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

anyone want to start a petition/fund to have tonybear or someone port this to osx? i'd do it. i just tried it out on a pc...and it is definitely the best vst of this sort. i like the little step sequencer in it for the effects. its very customizable.

the demo is quality.

It's fully functional except there is 5 seconds of silence every 30 seconds or something. I have the activate device button on a midi button on my controller and just give it short bursts. sounds amazing

while the demo's are very convincing, I do find that it does sound a little bit 'standard'. The claim it's unique sounding might be right, but I've done stuff like this by hand, using just live...

(edit) maby I should try the demo ...

yeah i've done the same just experimenting with live by automating phasers, bit reducers, beat repeat, etc but it's just nice to have this at your disposal, mainly for me, for live sets. dance music doesn't go down very well here but people love song deconstruction and beat-fuckery. and it looks pretty extensive and tweakable. i'm sure with some time, patience, and understanding of the program, you could create some pretty interesting and innovative results.

just my stance though.

Yes, you're right! What can't you do with Live's amazing envelopes! Totally agree...
BUT YOU CAN"T DO IT LIVE That's why i love GLitch, is not "revolutionary" in its way, but it's probably the best in its category: "parametered" random variations in a live situation (when you're too busy playing an instrument or something). It beats the competition, imho. And i like the fact that it sounds "classic", if your music is interesting, it will add a little extra and not colour it too much, unlike another "instant glitch" cliche. I heard some Glitch Jockey mp3, and it seems much more "Destroy-Schematic-VonSchirach" oriented. And more lfo based...
Glitch makes you think again your live performance because with controllers, there are a few different ways to use it. I ended up using this approach: just one pattern, actually very even (64steps), and about 5 "?" at the right place, and some knob controllers for the probability of the effects, and some buttons for effects solo, if i really wanna mash it up. Most of the time i don't worry about it. With a samll probability value you can get very natural, not overdone variations (and Glitch's shuffler is the best i ever heard, alaways musical).
Perfect companion for the live instrument looper.
