Help please my computers gone mad!!!!!!!

Post by Skrikin » Thu Jan 05, 2006 3:21 am

Just sat down to warp a couple more tunes and i noticed that since i updated my version to 5.03 yesterday all my midi devices have disappeared from the preferances. So i unistalled all my drivers (firewire driver still working) and reinstalled them. The drivers are there but evertime i open midi set-up assitant it crashes and says there are no devices.

i'm on OSX 10.3.9 and using M-audio devices it was fine yesterday before i updated....

Is this an ableton thing or an apple thing please help i don't have a clue where to start,,,, please????????????

Since the audio midi setup tool is crashing, you can safely rule out live as the source of the problems. Have you run a fix disk permissions yet?

I have actually seen this happen before on my friend's computer, but I don't remember exactly how I fixed it. I recall that I found the solution by sifting through some application logs stored in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter (where ~ means your home directory, btw). Do you have any logfiles there from m-audio apps, live, or the audio midi setup?

If so, you can email them to me at nik(a)teragon.org and I'll be happy to take a look at them.

Cheers matey i've solved it now..... seems like it was the firewire driver for my audio interface. i dumped all my preferences for both midi and live etc. Then reinstalled the firewire driver and it seems to have worked. Thanks for the offer matey still not sure why it happened but it's working so i won't jinx it now

Thanks again...
