Help for my Micro Korg and Live 5

Post by Ableton Beliver » Fri Jan 06, 2006 6:26 pm

Ok so here's the deal I have been using Live 5 for about 5 months now and I LOVE the program! I like coming here on the forums and read other peoples tips and tricks and general things about this great program! I thought I'll never register here but I need some assistance.

I just purchased a MicroKorg to be my 'first analog hardware synth' The problem that I have is that I can't get my sound or notes to playback for me in my Live sequencer! I have my midi cables going into my Audiophile 192 sound card and the midi signal and notes are being recorded in Live but thre is no sound coming out!

I have also read the Korg manual about setting my Korg Global Position to Post KBD or Pre Tg and then turn on the Korg arpeggiator, play the notes, and then turn the arpeggiator off during playback and nothing happens!

Maybe there's something I'm not doing right with my Live Preferences. Can anybody help me!?

Check your settings in preferences under midi i'm at work right now and dont have live up but where it shows your midi device there should be three buttons which might be what your looking for.
G4 iBook 1.25 gig RAM Tiger , Ableton Live 5, M-Audio Audiophiler Firewire, FCB1010

maybe a silly reminder, but make sure you know where the audio is going from the microkorg.

Why are you posting the same question in different forums?

Why am I replying to both posts!

If you don't know audio in and out and are trying to make electronic music - you probably have some catching up to do. Read the Korg manual for example. I know there are diagrams on how to hook everything up.

Cheers,
Mikael

when you send midi to your microkorg, audio is going to come out of it, just like when you play it's keyboard. sound doesn't travel through midi (maybe you knew, maybe you didn't?). you probably want that going to your computer, which you can do with two 1/4" male to male TRS cables for the left and right outputs of your microkorg to the left and right inputs of your audiophile 192 accordingly. now, in live, select the audiophile as the 'input audio device' in preferences, create an audio channel with 'audio from' 'ext. in' and '1/2', and set 'monitor' to 'in'. you should be set, that is if your midi has all been taken care of.
sorry if this was a review of stuff you already knew, just wanna make sure you can get to your music making asap.

Thanks for the advice. However I won't be able to try that until later or tomorrow morning. I'll get back to you and let you know if it works!

Best

How silly of me I should of known that! It just really slip my mind about the Audio out cables. I think I just made a fool of myself because somebody out in Sweden thinks I need some 'catching up to do' Anyways to that fellow who made that post about my electronic music capabilities that wasn't very nice. I can't help it that I'm NOT you. I can ONLY be me!

I thought this forum thing was here for people to ask for advice and for all of us music enthusiast ot make better music.

Just want to say thank you Ewik I got my MK to work!

Wish you the best!

I didn't mean to offend you in any way (and I certainly don't want you to be me - or me to be you...). But missing out on audio cables is a bit funny... :D And even if Ewik kindly walked you through the whole process - I kinda gave you the same answer. Although I wanted you to do some of the work yourself.

Now Mr. Beliver - I hope to talk to you soon again!

Cheers,
Mikael

just as a matter of interest - where did you think the MK's sounds we're going to come from?
