Best way to rip tracks from vinyl for Live use.

Post by dj roman » Sat Jan 07, 2006 6:47 pm

So, I've read enough to realize that theres diffrences in performance or ease of use when working with tracks ripped from vinyl. Can anyone suggest any tips to help it work or sound better? How about the program/settings/format that are optimal.

I hope to use alot of classic vinyl in a few sets.

Thanks in advance.

I JUST FINISHED READING THE MANUAL. I STILL HAVE FREAKING QUESTIONS.

I record my records at 44.1/16bit then burn backup cd copies so i won't lose my time consuming work. You could always record them at higher resolution with your motu though, if you want. Make sure you record with your turntables quartz lock on to minimize the amount of track warping you will have to fiddle with in live afterwards. It's time consuming, but very nice to have back ups of that classic irreplacable vinyl.

I do the sdame using my firewire m-audio, record in at 24 bit and back them onto an external LaCie drive so i can keep the HD space free. As said there's no real shortcut as the music has to be recorded in real time, but once it's done it's done!

Hi ,
Nice to see you guys happily ripping from vinyl.
I haven't had so much luck.
The edirol FA-66 interface I use has two RCA ins (line 3 and 4), which I thought would make this operation a breeze. Yet I can't seem to channel the audio thru to my powerbook. I've tried recoring from audio editors such as Peak, Audacity as well as Live. Nothing works so far. All softwares allow me to record using the Edirol's line 1 (mic-preamp), but not the RCAs, although I have enabled these inputs in the recording software.

Does anyone out there know this interface? Can anyone offer a solution?

Cheers
John

OK, found the answer on another thread of this forum.
I wasn't running the signal thru a pre-amp, which is mandatory for a turntable with low output level.
