it would be so cool to 'Jam' movie soundtrack ideas from the Sesssion view and then tweak them in Arrange view all to a Quicktime window..

Yes, yes, yes oh fuck yes!!! Gimme gimme gimme!!! I'm doing animation now and I would love to use Live to score with and not have to goto Digital Performer which has way too much overhead for my laptop to use effectively. Maybe a floating window perhaps?

My first experience with Live is back with version 3, and I loved it. Since then I have found it necessary for my current job in designing sound for video/animations. Since I haven't used Live for the last five versions, I was hopeing it would have video support by now. but from the looks of things it's not quite there yet. My major audio editing platform is Pro Tools and have used Live with rewire in the past. My idea was to use Rewire to have Live sync to the imported video in Pro Tools and then create my tracks in Live. Wouldn't this work out similar to Live actually having video playback?
i don't think they should ever put any video editing capabilites into live though.woodie wrote:gomi wrote:
gomi - I use Vegas Movie Studio & LOVE IT. To complete the circle....Live with Video would be sweeter than candy.
live is for live composition and performance, not video editing.
a quicktime video windows with timecode would just make it really
really good for sfx editing and even dialog / music editing.
i hate protools

wave of the future
LIVE VJ is definitely the direction we're headed. in 10 years, computers will probably all be running 64bit (at least) with access to massive amounts of RAM, and an audio/video performance software will probably be a rather run-of-the-mill item.
but i'd love to see Ableton get there first. yes, a sync'd QT window would be a lovely addition, but i absolutely want an A/V performance tool where video clips are coupled with audio clips, and audio and FX parameters and LFO's can be used to FX the video.
i think it would be a bad idea to make video EDITING a part of Live, other than being able to select a certain time range within a video clip to match the audio clip's length. any VJ implementation in LIVE i think should focus on unique performance ability, great FX, smooth performance and linkage to audio info/parameters.
i don't care if the initial video quality/resolution isn't that good, or if it's just in black and white (ok, we must have color!), or if video clips can only be a maximum of 30 seconds long, and you can't mix/run/blend view more than 4 clips at a time (per scene for instance). just be able to link Video clips with whatever Audio clips you want and be able to link video FX to audio parameters (pitch and amplitude). Do your video clip creation and editing and initial FX in a dedicated video program, and then just add a VIDEO folder in the Live Library section for drag n drop during performance. the video functionality could also be "totally" transparent - just hit a modifier key to expand the audio clip slots into audio and video slots so you can select FX. oh, and focus is on performance so don't worry about integrating video clips into the arrangement window.. arrangement can get by with a simple sync'd QT window for editing sound to picture.
and rendering? well, let there be a performance mode where only audio moves are recorded, and a studio mode where audio and video is recorded (though you wouldn't have to monitor the video if you didn't want to -- after all, you already presumably captured and edited the clips and chose the bits you wanted to perform with.) then you could render/export as a QT file.
and just make sure the application itself is lean and mean (hopefully even leaner and meaner than it is now) so the average user can still use LIVE for audio (and video), BUT - if you want to do amazing stuff, you've got to pay the price for a performance machine. heck, i just sold my old 867mhz Powerbook and bought a 2.0ghz Centrino just so i could do a lot more with LIVE when i'm gigging.
peace

Been doing this for 9 months with Arkaos VJ rewired to Live. Surround audio, live percussion, video clips, video FX, lasers, strobes, washes, floods, blinders, haze machine and remote pan/tilt/zoom cameras are all under Live launch and LFO control.am is are wrote: i absolutely want an A/V performance tool where video clips are coupled with audio clips, and audio and FX parameters and LFO's can be used to FX the video.
Sometimes you gotta think outside the box...
I'd love to share tips and tricks without anyone doing the same.
