I made the mistake of using Live 5.0.3 for a gig last night, and I'm really sorry now. I was using Live to trigger synth perussion loops to accompany 2 of us playing guitars and keys. Things were good for a while but later in the set Live decided I was no longer where it wanted me to be in relation to its bogus "absolute time" and so all my clips were firing off the one, (see the thread "clips start in the middle"). We were doing a very simple bit with only ONE track, alternating between TWO drum patterns, and it was totally screwed up, with no way to recover the proper "one." We sounded like idiots until I just ditched the drum loops altogether.
I remember back when Live was a great tool for PLAYING LIVE. Sadly this is no longer the case. While adding all sorts of dumbass saturator toys and trying in vain to compete with real DAW's, Ableton have intentionally thrown away the only thing that made Live unique and valuable.
Argh.
Live starts in middle of beat=ruined gig

man that sucks....
i keep saying that in session view , it should operate as it has all along. If this feature makes sense , it should be reserved for the arrange view...or some other intentional way of activating it.
ultimately tho , I'd like to be informed about any drastic changes planned for the session views functioning....i use the session view most of all for playing live [i thought thats how it was marketed?], not for DAW stuff [admitedly you could do that too]

Yeah, I'm bothered that they never mentioned the change, but also by the fact that they MADE the change. I wish I could turn off "absolute time" or Arrange view when playing live. Otherwise, I might as just lipsynch to backing tracks or something. I thought this was supposed to be a "Live Sequencing Instrument." Right now, it is not.
man I'm so sorry to hear that, that's friggin brutal.
Did you have any idea about this "change" before you set?
This is completely mind blowing
and by the way Ableton, an easy way to alienate people is to make them feel and look stupid. I cannot believe this wasn't in the logs or previously mentioned.

I knew about the "bug fix" from reading the thread here, but I didn't really understand the implications, and was lucky when practicing the set, I suppose. Now that I can see first hand what Live is actually doing in these situations, it boggles my mind. I just don't get it. I'm not trying to flame Ableton, because I think they're cool people and I love the idea of Live in theory, but I'm not going to use it on stage again anytime soon. I certainly will not buy any new version that retains this stupid clip behavior.
By the way, thanks for all the sympathy, guys! I wish you all better experiences than this one.
