I just got back from NYC. Went to Rogue and messed around a bit. That is a cool place. Some real vintage gear too. They were very helpful. It feels more like someones garage than a music store. There is also a very cool place down by canal (I can't remember the addy though sorry) They might be closed down but they had a ton of gear. I got to play a few different Fender Rhodes for over an hour. I was in heaven.

You're thinking of Two Lines. It's on Broadway a few blocks south of Canal Street on the East side of the street.

Lots of killer synths.

It was called Two Lines Music-- used to be Dr. Sound on Mercer St.-- and as far as I know, it's all gone now. The Japanese guy does some work over at Main Drag here in Brooklyn, from what I hear...

As for EXISTING stores; lerky, are you looking for pro AUDIO, or MUSIC? And if music, what kind? Guitars, Synths, DJ?

check out Rogue Music on 30th also right downstairs is Armens Music @ 212-563-4514. Lots of goodies at both of them. There is a really cool "standard" ( Guitars, Basses, drums...)type music shop accross the strreet. They are right by Penn Station which is pretty central...

Have Fun

haha ARMEN's. He fixed a few of my synths when he worked at Rogue, namely my Kurzweil K2000 and installed the KDFX in my old K2500. It's hard to find a good Kurzweil repairman who actually knows what's up with those machines. He seemed to know them inside and out.....A strange guy though, and he charged an armen a leg!!!! (get it?). he had a falling out w/ Rogue @ 2002 or 2003 and split to open his own repair shop downstairs.......I think they were exploiting his talents......if I ever needed a synth fixed, though, he's the first guy I would go to.....he must have repaired THOUSANDS of machines over the years....THOUSANDS.....

Man I'm so bummed out about TWO LINES music. That dude was cool, and I spent many hours there hanging w/ my boy Eric talking synth talk and messing around with the gear. Another victim of the software explosion....add to that all of the RECORD stores and clubs in NYC and there ain't much left of what I used to like there at all....strange, time is.....

Crazy shit there Err_, I grew up in LES and now I'm your neighbor in the burgh. Nuts.

Also wanted to chime in about how much NYC has continued to suck more and more, first with Guliani, then the NYU expansion, and now the post 911 limelight (not the club.)

That f'n cabaret liscense BS was the biggest sign of doom of all.

NYC is just nothing like it used to be at all.....not worth the trouble and $$$ anymore IMO.

the burgh is nice and chill. Not much of an electronic music "scene" anymore, but I could really care less......I can drive to NYC or Toronto or Detroit or D.C. or Baltimore or Philly or Cleveland or Columbus or even CHI-town if I wanna go to a show.....The RENT here is nice and CHEAP. That's my #1 priority.....
