intel core duo on mac book pro
intel core duo on mac book pro
What I am wondering is - is this a dual processor and as such will live support it as I have read elsewhere that live does not take advantage of dual processors ?

Live isn't OPTIMISED at all for any systems with dual/quad processors. So, no, unless Ableton have been very busy.. forgetaboutit...

intel Core Duo support
Does this imply that the current version of Live can be run on the intel Core Duo?
If not, what is the plan to release a version compatible with intel Core Duo?

We are hoping it will at least RUN in emulation mode.. but nobody knows for sure. It certainly won't have been created as a universal binary yet, and completely definately certainly isn't dual processor optimised.

lol, ya i could be upset about this, being a mac owner, but hey, its fuckign true. cant deny it. I dont even like 15" laptops (personal preference), but im still thinking about buying one just to fuck with.Machinate wrote:Rule #1 about mac users;
they WILL pay.
...Gotta respect that, actually.
I understand paying a little. They have put alot of work into the universal binary. I think $49 is a steal for something like this from apple. It could have been alot worse. After you pay $1000 for logic, it seems prretty ok.
Ya, seriously, lets get an official word from you guys at ableton. universal coming soon? it has been confirmed that windows will run on these new machines, so i suppose you could do that if you wanted, but i love my OSX.
Also, it would be awsome if someone could try to run programs like live, pro tools, reason, etc, etc, etc on one of these using Rosetta. I think it would be awsome if it worked at all.
I agree that the $49 is pretty lame. What am I paying for exactly? I already bought a license. I should be able to download it for free or get the CDs mailed at a very nominal charge.
If you don't like it you should send feedback like I did:

I'm worried that other companies will try to use this as a revenue stream as well. I mean they have to make a universal binary away. It seems lame to pass on part of the cost to existing customers on current versions.
I predict a lot of app will rev the release that supports universal binary. I hope Ableton does it in 5, not 6. :-/
Other than that I'm excited about the speed gains. I hope it’s more than just marketing numbers cause CPU is limiting my creativity.

I think it's pretty funny that some people seem to think it's no big deal to buy a new mac for $2000 but then won't pay $49 for a software update to run their old software on a new machine.
Sure you've already paid for a licence, but then again you've already got the software and it's already running on your machine.

digidesign has no plans for a universal binary this soon.MarkH wrote:If Ableton could be the first to release a DAW native for Mactel, that would be great publicity for them. Rumor on the Apple Discussions forum is the Apple Pro apps (Logic, Final Cut, etc) will be released in March as a $49 upgrade charge.
probably closer to the end of the year.
bring on the LIVE
The most important thing in my mind, is that all of a sudden, CPU optimisations are exactly the same on both platforms - if Ableton can get both dual-core and Intel instruction optimisation going at the same time, then we will have ourselves one sweet ass program.
But I wouldn't count on either until v6. Here's hoping that that v5.1 at least fixes existing issues...
Oh, and don't forget to backup your files and then update to 10.4.4. According to Apple there's updates to the Core Audio drivers.. hopefully this means new firewire drivers.... and we can all speculate as to what this might mean (no more glitches for those unlucky users).
