Deleting the prefrences on windows XP
I was fooling around, trying to fix the audio glitches I'm experiencing using live 5.03 and an maudio firewire audiophile interface. So...one of the things I was going to try was deleting c:\windows\documents and user settings\username\application data\ableton\live 5.03
live 5.02 was there also....so when I deleted them, and started live...it asked me for my serial number, so I fed it the digits and next thing it wanted to unlock online , or via the unlock key.
so the question is, is that supposed to happen ?....I plan on ditching this vaio as-soon-as-poss so its already a pain that I;ve wasted one unlock on it....
anyways, I restored the 5.03 and 5.02 folders .....because I didnt want to go using a unlock
and I still have the audio glitches.
as a sidenote, I tried using asio drivers (not the maudio one) and turned the buffers up high, the result was a very lagged out live. moving audio track volumes up and down was really jerky, and you see the movement onscreen about a second before you hear the result. same goes for clip changes. for a 4 note clip, the pie would have progressed around a quarter before you would hear the clip start ....dont recall the tempo, probably low like 80
trying a new maudio driver today, fingers crossed.

You don't trash the whole folder. You have to go in the folder and there is another folder named preferences, and then within that folder is a file called 'preferences.cfg'. This is the file that you want to trash if I recall correctly.
Just the file, not the whole folder. If you notice, there is another folder named unlock. This holds the unlock key.
Best of luck.
Cheers, AB

cheers , I guessed as much. Feel silly for not doing that in the first place, heh.
Anyways, I ditched the prefs, installed a new driver for my interface....and Im still getting the glitches and pops....sometimes cpu related, but i dont think i should be experiencing them at 20% ,,,sometimes it will go from 8% to 10% and will pop and click.....
oh well....it does sound improved enough to be less depressing to use tho.

I guess the only other thing to check is the latency settings?
I know that sounds really simplistic, but it has happened to other users.
For me, everything is finally working pretty well.
The only strange thing that happened was that a delay seemed to end up missing in one of my tracks. I mean in updating to 5.0.3.
Also, thought I suspect you are a pretty knowledgeable user, what soundcard are you using?

done and dusted.
i've had some improvements by downloading the latest drivers from maudio;s website. still some older, very simple, sets pop and click...but it eventually stopped after you let it play for a while. and i havent noticed any problems now with new sets. so far..
happy days!
