I'm just interested as to what everone is getting from their DAW interms of track-count before your PC grinds to a halt.
I use Ableton Live (v 5.0.2) I get the feeling it's hogging the harddisk in terms of the way it accesses files. (I've tried 5.0.3 but it crashes my system)
I am getting on average ~20 tracks before my PC grinds to a halt (I am running plenty of plugins with this though!) I have mates using other DAW's with lesser systems getting ~ 60 tracks
Anyone elses with much higher track counts?
My system:
Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz 800MHz CPU 2MB Cache (Socket 775)
Gigabyte GA-8I945G Pro SKT775 Motherboard
1GB DDR400 PC3200 RAM
2x 200GB 7200rpm Quiet SATA Hard Disks with 8MB Cache (Seagate Barracuda)
DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
128MB PCI-Express X550 Silent Dual Output Graphics Card
What is your track Count?

A lot depends on plugins and effects whether from Live or from third party. Just out of curiosity I ran a test with one scene and lots of tracks - audio only. I was hitting about 50% CPU when I went over 50 tracks. I stopped because it was getting boring dragging all those clips.
On the other hand, if I start adding Reaktor tracks, I'm not even going to get close. If I start putting eq and reverb on each track I'm not going to get close to 50 tracks.
